there is enough evidence that the events of Christs life happened, its just a matter of whether you believe He was/is God.
    exactly!

I may even post this in a seperate thread...

I am appalled that church groups are taking CHILDREN to see this movie. What is worse is that a local church is having a 'lock-in' for kids where they will go without food for 30 hours to raise money for people without food (don't get me started). After which they will go see the movie. Maybe they can go see Texas Chainsaw Masacre/Clockwork Orange double feature afterwards?

To explain to all everything that is wrong with this would take me quite a while. Going without food or sleep for 30 hours is known as a prime method of 'mind flattening'. Playing with the mind's electrolyte balance along with peer pressure and addressing by figures of authority, followed by an intensley gruesome and graphic movie ..... THESE are CHILDREN!

I am interested in your take.

I think that's a terrible thing to do this to kids but the kids will listen to their parents and believe that what they say is right.

I certainly don't think this is the kind of movie to show to children...there is an "R" rating on it for good reason.

This movie and what people do with it will surely conjur up pleanty of controversy.

Agreed. For adults, I am sure it's a fine movie and more meaningful for some than others. But, I am troubled by how exclusionary this movie has already made Christians, specifically southern baptists. Exclusionary in that it has turned some I know into a mood of 'we are believers, YOU are a non-believer and to be frowned upon.' Not very Christian if you ask me.....

actually, Jesus was the son of God.
Stonecold, the bible never made any predictions. people misinterprit the book of Revelations to be a telling of how the world will end, while it isn't. the book of Revelation was written by John while he was imprisoned to give God's People faith who were also imprisoned.

Thats interesting Puddles, what religion are you if you do mind me asking?

Well I'm assuming that these kids these churches are taking are members of church am I correct? What kind of religion is that locking these kids in? I know when i was being confirmed catholic we had separate fundraisers and lockins for various reasons to help us know more about each other and we were in high school. lol I'm going to hell for this one, me and this chick hooked up in one of those lockins and we hooked up again on a retreat. Oh yea, we catholics are bad. lol I'm sorry, but anyways, what religion is this locking kids in so they can prove something to themselves?? I know the lockins and I had when I was young benefited me a little because I got some real close friends even though some of us got too close LOL.

But I can agree with you in your point that if you look at it, this church is placing this movie on them to probably scare them into religion possibly. I remember the movie The Omega Code was about armageddon and it was the same ordeal but it was a smaller movie and didn't attract that much attention unlike Passion of Christ that has Mel Gibson and alot of attention being paid towards it.

Like you, I was raised Catholic and hooked up with a girl (my first experience with a girl) on a CYO retreat. It was fun since we shared the same room. I made a few good friends at those retreats. :)

                      I'm agnostic now.

we're going to hell if there's one because from what I know about being saved, I AIN"T GETTING IINTO HEAVEN. Maybe I can get to purgatory and that'll be my get outta jail free card. You ever heard of people saying purgatory being a place where you have to labor at putting books away or something? lol I remember that from some cartoon.

I look forward to seeing the movie and plan to try to in the next few weeks. I think I will enjoy it because I have a very limited knowledge of religion. As a kid I was sent to Baptist bible school for a few years, but was never in Church enough to learn about it. I think it will be a powerful movie and look forward to seeing it without a bias for any of the different religions.

I think the cartoon was Tom & Jerry. LOL I used to think that pergatory was why we had ghosts...those not too good but not too bad people kinda got stuck here. But maybe those are really angels trying to earn their way into heaven.

If there is a hell, I can't believe that a loving god would send me there. I don't think of myself as a bad person for enjoying the fun things this life has to offer, and otherwise I'm a good person.

You know, from hearing the belief that man is "naturally good" is something I want to believe. We're all good when we're younger yet we Catholics have the belief of Mortal sin when we're born we have sinned yet there's also in insert in the belief that a child to a certain age is still innocent in God's eyes.

See? these holes in religion just keep arising and this is where I wonder how religions can prove themselves right on this one. Right now I am agnostic yet I lean to evolutionism now because of my major in biology. My professors are heavy evolutionists with good insight on it. Sigh, we'll never know! :dunno:

It's a baptist church. They are also heavily involved in Awanas which has its roots in the cultish De Colores...I'm not shitting on anyones religion, but this whole scene is fucked up!

They are locking the kids and some 'leaders' in without food for 30 hours. I was told by a guy (not from this church) who was a missionary in Chile that the kids and adults will not sleep really. Read my synopsis of breaking down a childs ability for rational thinking on the other thread..

The peer pressure my daughter is under to join in this retardedness is unbelievable. She told her friend who invited her that she will not attend and explained why and her friend put intense pressure on her to go and made her feel really bad. What is WORSE is that the friend's mother told my daughter that SATAN was working to keep people from seeing the movie by spreading lies about how gruesome the film is.

It's gonna be a cold day in their hell before my daughter hangs with that family again!

Is organized religion against the ropes so much that they have to resort to mind control tactics on youth???
