The NFL recently passed this rule. Does anybody actually think a 17 or 18 yr. old can take that kind of punishment? Also would a franchise actually draft someone from HS?

Doesn't matter too much where they get them, High School or college. Most of them are so dumb anyway it's about all they'll ever be good for. Unless you consider how much trouble they can get into. Is that a skill? I will never get over the fact that Dexter Manley who played for the Redskins some time ago graduated college and couldn't even read!! All of sports are full of these idiots and again, all they'll ever be good at in society is by being an athlete and entertaining people. What a world. BB

If you have the talent, you should be able to play as soon as you are of age (legal adult). Forcing kids to perform slave labor in college for 3 years is not right...they are being used by the NCAA system that profits billions of dollars...and don't even try to say that the scholarship is fair compensation...cuz it doesn't even come close! If the NCAA starts paying it's most profitable athletes some money, then I might reconsider. College ball is a minor league system for the NFL...they ought to pay what other minor league systems for pro sports pay. Until then, coming straight out of high school is fine in my books.

the fact is that i don't really think that any 18 year has the physical ability to play in the nfl. but as far as the education i know a lot of very smart individuals that pretty much only know football and don't apply themselves to academics because they are sure they will get an nfl contract. it is reall ashame to piss away an opportunity to get a college education that is completely paid for. just my 2cc

If getting a 4 year education at a university with all the perks that go with being an athlete is slave labor we should all be so lucky as to have our children forced into that servitude..if they are good enough to go pro they get the millions..if not, they get a free education...however if you look at the majors of most of these "student-athletes"..the majority are majoring in african history......I have never seen a want ad for that..if you ask me, it's they who are using/abusing the system....90% of these kids will not make it in the nfl and will be back on the streets.....with no way to earn a living despite a 4 year scholly that could have been used by a non athlete who truly wants an education....I have no problem letting high schoolers into the pro ranks..saves a wasted scholarship...I think the ideals of this country are about as fucked up as can be when a kid who can dribble a basketball gets more accolades and support than one who is going after a degree in nuclear science..........my rant is over now...:(Originally posted by hitmansb
