What is an oxymoron?

Oxymoron definition: A rhetorical figure in which incongruous or contradictory terms are combined.

Example: Removing the ten commandments from the courthouse while making people swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help you GOD...with their hand on the Bible!

thats good..maybe they should take GOD out of it all together..then they could just stand up there and say- mr doe, dude do you promise not lie,come on now be seroiuos here mr doe,we mean it you better tell the truth or youll be sent to bunk without supper young man......then people would surely tell the truth..at the very least placing hand on bible and takin oath would deter(not saying prevent) someone from lying..eternal hell fire in a devils grave would deter even the slight believer..

I work in a courthouse, there is at least one person lying in every case or they wouldn't be there in the first place. It doesn't mean crap to swear on the bible.

Nope look at all the criminals that continuously "praise Jesus" yet they lie, cheat, steal, murder, rape, etc...swearing on the bible would be about as deterring as swearing on the yellow pages.

lol..you guys are right..but what about the witnesses..the character witnesses and shit like that..those are the ones who i feel will be the most deterred by it..like this- am i going to lie for this guy and say he is upstandin fella when i know he is not and risk the chance of lying to the LORD..even the slightest believer could be deterred..im done here..this thread is about oxymorons and ive somehow turned it into a religious one..my bad..
