  • My take on the Bertuzzi incident...

After reading the previous thread, I thought everyone had interesting view points and what not...

As a current college hockey player, and a player who has been in the HS, Jr, and College ranks I think the suspension handed out to Bertuzzi was ridiculous...and let me explain my self

First let me explain, I in no way feel what Bertuzzi did was right, or condone his actions. In fact, I think what he did was crazy.

Second, I feel the hit Moore put on Naslund was a totally legit hit, and Naslund set him self up for it, He lost and edge, and stumbled somewhat, and Moore (with his hands down) caught Naslund straight in the face. I felt the Naslund injury was not Moores fault at all.

    With that said...

Bertuzzi is a mean son of a bitch (the mentality you need to play hockey) hes a tough SOB on the ice. He like everyone else on the ice is constantly full of emotion during the heat of the battle.....and in the game with the Avs he was extremely frustrated, They were down 8-2 or something like that, and the game was over. I felt due to his frustration he acted like he did. I guessed you could say he got "caught in the heat of the moment" There is no way he meant to do what he did. I guess what he did is hard to understand to a fan, but as a player, that shit happens all the time where u just want to destroy someone. Bertuzzi tried to bait Moore into a fight, and Moore rejected so Bertuzzi let his emotions get the best of him. There is no one in hockey, including Bertuzzi that would want something like this to happen, for the sake of Moores Health, Bertuzzis image, or for the NHL in genereal. His apology was heartfelt, and what happened was extremely unfortunate...I think the punishment he received is extremely harsh, and I bet Steve Moore would agree with me.

Again, I feel what Bertuzzi did was wrong, but the suspension hes receiving is ridiculous, I understand for the rest of the regular season, and at most the playoffs...but to be evaluating his status for next year is obsurd. This is just a very unfortunate accident that ended in injury, and is overall, a bad situation. Bertuzzi should be let back in the league. When they play the Avs again, he will get his...(Peter Worrell :D) thats how the game goes.

Another thing, To bring on criminal charges for this action? no way...Thats like saying, everytime 2 guys drop the gloves, and if one guy gets throttled, he should be charged for assault. You can say "well Bertuzzi came at him from behind" ....so everytime a line brawl breaks out, and a guy gets jumped, should the attacker be prosecuted....everytime a guy is charged with a major checking from behind penalty, should a guy be sent to jail??? NO

And, now they are trying to debate to take fighting out of the game. That would be the worst thing for the game, Fighting is part of the game, and is a big deterrent to guys gooning other players like Bertuzzi did. If they take fighting out of the game, the NHL goes down the shitter...

well theres my take on it. The only reason I posted this was to throw out a viewpoint from a current hockey player....

Feel free to disagree and debate, but keep it clean! ;)

Hockey players, gotta love em :D

Gong...I think the only reason that they are leaving the status of the next season open is because this happened so late in the year; the NHL has no idea how many games Bertuzzi will actually sit out, because they have no way of knowing how many playoff games the Canucks will play. I think the reasoning is that there is no way this suspension should be less than 20 games; the sentencing has to be at least as bad as what Hunter got for the cheap shot on Turgeon years ago.
