The worst part is having them die on ya. I picked up another bird last weekend. It's crop was full of berries that made it too heavy to fly right and it fell in front of a car. I saw it all happen and stopped and grabbed it. It wasn't bleeding externaly. I pulled all the berries out of its mouth because it was having trouble breathing. I stopped by a Vet's clinic and he was like, " It's just a bird. I can't do anything for it." All about the money! I got halfway home and the little thing fapped out of my lap and was trying like crazy to fly. I pulled off the road and picked it up. It was in one of my hands as it slowly closed its eyes and lowered its head. I knew it was dieing and I talked to it untill it was completly gone. I hate it but sometimes you just can't save them.

I am the same way candle....

Before we moved down here, we came down for a week to look at real estate. One day we went to the mall and there was this bird with a broken wing and was walking around in the heat. I wanted to take it to the vet or a bird rehab place but my man was like are you crazy!! I started crying and I mean CRYING and starting pitching a fit so I got my way. The bird let me pick him up and I wrapped him in a towel I had in the car and took him to wild rehabilitation place I found in the phone book.

I love all animals and I can't stand to see any of them in pain... I want to save them all:D

redmach, I love ya girl!!! I am the same way. :) I love all animals, no matter what kind they are.

Candle, that was sweet of you to take care of the little bird while it died. :( The same thing happened to me once, and this is horrible! We had this black cat who lived outside (a stray but we fed it everyday, and it knew us) Anyway, one day she caught a little bird and was trying to eat it. My dad took the bird from her and we put all this stuff on it, and bandaged the litthe thing.
(I was in grammar school at the time)
Anyway we put him in a little cage with food and a little bowl of water. And in the morning I asked my mother how the bird was and she asid it was ok... well 15 minutes later I went to check on him, and he had fallen into the little bowl and drowned. (The bowl wasnt very big, just small, but he must have tripped into it, and since he had a broken wing and some bandages, it was a little heavy) :bawl: GOD I will forever remember how much I cried and hated myself for that. First he was saved and then that happened. I guess thats when I realized how much I love animals. :( I still think about it. :bawl:

I know what you mean Lexi. I have only killed one animal in my life. That was a car accedent. I ran over a bird. I almost wrecked trying to miss it. I threw on my emergency flashers, jumped out of the car, and ran back to where I hit it. It was completly dead. That memory pops up on occason. I know that accedents will happen. We all just gotta do the best we can. I think that makes a difference.

              :)

I used to raise squirrels from pinky's to when they are big enough to leave. the good thing with them is they always came back to see me and would sit on my shoulder and eat out of my hand.

LOL I think squirrels are so cute. :) I feed them peanuts in the park. They get reallllly close (can almost touch my shoes!
One time I got "gutsy" and tried to hand it to one. He almost took it but I dropped it in front of me, and he just scooped it up. :)
At one time, there were like 9 of them.
Too cute! Cant wait for spring so I can do that again. lol

I believe that....I swear they understand the whole concept that they are free out there and my cat is a prisioner in his own home...When hes outside there is a huge tree branch right outside the screened in porch and they will get really close to my cat by being on that branch and look at him and turn around and wiggle their bushy tails in his face to taunt them... then turn around and stare at him like "haha can't get me!" Ever since I saw that I have a new found respect for squirrels. :D

Ok I love animals all kinds. Except for the platypus. I’d never hurt one but they freak me out, they go against the laws of nature. I‘ve had just about everything you can think of. I even had a pet baby possum for a while that fell in my pool and I nursed back to health. Till the mean little fucker got healthy and tried to bite me all the time I let it go out in woods.

Now here is a question. I now have 2 snakes that eat live mice and rats. Is wrong that I feed one animal to another? I know that’s what they do in the wild, but sometimes I feel bad cause I use to have a pet mouse when I was a kid. Cats in the wild eat mice and birds, but you don’t see people going to the pet store and buying parakeets for their cats.

So do I....I have a boa that eats medium rats and a cornsnake...well hes around here somewhere LOL(he escaped!!! ) You gotta remember Jarhead that that is what these snakes eat in the wild, and this is what they HAVE to eat to survive...its not like you can give them a turkey leg or something!! I feel bad too when I have to feed Chloe, my boa. I used to have a pet rat when I was younger too and they are so cute. But when I go to the pet store, I don't even touch them and don't get attached...I look at them as food because thats what they are, cruel yes, but thats how it is in the wild anyway.

I also buy them either frozen or prekilled...its easier to deal with that way. You should NEVER feed live prey to your snake, that is bad!! Rats/mice have long and sharp teeth and can inflict some serious and possibly FATAL damage to your snake!! I will find some links for you.

I know feading live is not the best for your snakes but my Red tail will not eat aning thing unless she can hunt it. My Ball on the other hand will eat anything. He once tried to eat a towel that was on my bed, it was still warm from coming out of the dryer. I guess he thought "White fuzzy must be food."

LOL:rofl: My boa tried to eat the carpet once because I fed her there and she got one of her "teeth" stuck...it was not cool! Needless to say I don't feed her there anymore, she has her own container now.

Check your pm...I sent you something

When I converted my boa over to prekilled, I would only feed her FRESH pre-killed, as in still warm and I would dangle it, by the tail in front of her so she could smell it and sense the movement. She would grab it and constrict like normal. Now, all I have to do is throw one in there and she will find it! She just "thinks" shes hunting it. :D
