How do you clear out the url address bar.

I know how to clear it out so when you hit the down arrow, nothing appears, but when i start typing a url that i previously typed in, it finishes the url for me.

any thoughts?

If you have Iexplorer, go to "Tools"-->"Internet Options" A window appears.

Click the "content" tab. There is an "auto complete" button. Click it. Another widow appears.

You can choose for it to auto complete url's, forms, and password/username boxes. I think that is what you are talking about.

how do u do it for mozilla

Go to "edit"-->"Preferences" window opens.

On the left there is a list of words in a menu. Open up the "Navigator" menu so you can see the sub-catagories.

One of the sub-catagories is "Smart Browsing" Click it. You'll see "Location Bar Autocomplete". Deselect that if you don't want it to complete at all. If not, it looks like you can pick and chose what you want it to auto-complete.
