Unreal...he hasn't missed a beat. 3-3 today with two doubles and a game-tying 3-run homer in the 8th inning.

I agree, however, it seems almost impossible for him not to break it...i sure hope his arrogant ass doenst break the all time record.
What I will be interested in seeing is how many of his teamates greet him at home plate when it happens. Remember how many were there when he hit number 500? One (the bat boy).

I love Barry....the arrogance is a big part of what makes me such a big fan of his. I like that he doesn't kiss media ass, and love that he came right out and said that he doesn't wanna hear anything more about Babe Ruth after he breaks his record. The old white boy baseball network doesn't wanna see the Babe get passed by again, but it's going to happen. And it should; Ruth was a fat pig hitting joke pitches out of tiny ballparks.

thats bullshit bro...Babe Ruth didnt have steroids or personal trainers.....he was fat but he also was a 20 game winning pitcher BEFORE he became a power hitter....most times after he had stayed out till 4 in the morning drinking....he also wasnt an arrogant asshole...FUCK BARRY BONDS...HE'S A PIECE OF SHIT...and it aint got a fucking thing to do with him being black....he's an ass.......if Babe Ruth is such a joke...why the hell is he still in 2nd place after all these years?Originally posted by hitmansb

The competition then wasn't a 1/20th of what it is now. The parks were also alot smaller back then. Read some history, and cool your jets a bit.Originally posted by Racer814

no doubt but the athletes werent as prepared and pampered either and the only thing that warmed my jets was the comment about the white boy network........I think if it were someone like Barry Sanders instead of Barry Bonds it wouldnt matter.Originally posted by G-S

I totally believe you on that and I didnt mean to sound like an ass....EVERY thing was different back then...its not even fair to compare..you dont have to be the prototype superior athlete to succeed.....look at Larry Bird......most of all it aint a black/white thing.....Originally posted by hitmansb
If Barry Bonds played in tiny little parks like Babe did, he'd hit 100 a year. Remember the old Tiger Stadium? It was the average size of really old parks...imagine what Barry would have done there, being a left-handed batter.

my history book still says he was a 20 game winning pitcher who is 2nd in hr after all these years and was hitting hr's at over twice the rate of any one else who played during that time...also the balls werent as hard and the pitchers didnt throw as hard....all of which contribute to hr's......and who holds the record for the longest ball hit out of wrigley field....Babe not BarryOriginally posted by G-S

I'm not saying that Babe couldn't play ball like a mofo...I'm just saying it's highly improbable that he hit as well as Barry when you normalize for size of ballpark, ect. As for home run distances, there are no ACCURATE measurements before 1982, and all parks didn't have accurate measurement capabilities until 1995. For an interesting read on home run distance exaggeration, check out the article I'm going to post in this forum.

its all a matter of opinion I guess...Barry is a tremendous ballplayer..I just cant get past his arrogance...one thing to remember though about the differences in the era's is that players back then didnt have personal trainers, dieticians, supplements or juice.....Barry would be more like the skinny kid who came into the league and if the old time players like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle,Dimaggio, etc had access to these things they would have performed even better...my point is that its hard to compare....
