My wife was a week overdue with our son. We decided to induce. It was a great way to do it. We were not rushed. Arrived on time, not stressed out. We got there at 11am. At noon they induced her, at about 6pm she got an epidural, started pushing at around 10pm and gave birth at midnight.
She wasnt uncomfortable in labor until about 5pm, where she was dialated to about a 5. After the epidural kicked in, she was fine until she started pushing. She had to push for quite a while, but all in all, she was happy about being induced and it worked out perfectly.
good luck to you. (and her)

my wife is the office manager at an OB/GYN. being overdure the first time is common. my wife was no exception. after 9 days past her due date i took her for a ride in my trans am over bumpy roads and we walked 1 mile every night and the night before she went in labor we we had some doggy style sex the next morning she was in labor.
induction is fairly common nothing to worry about bro

I was 26 when I had my first and only child. I was 2 weeks and a day past my due date when I was induced. I was admitted into the hospital in the evening and they gave me the stuff to get me going into labor, one was a cream they insterted vaginally and the other was through the IV. I was having some contractions, but nothing much, and not dialated at all. Around 10pm my husband decided he'd go home for a nap and I asked him to help me roll over onto my other side, as we did this my water broke so he didn't leave. My contractions intensified but I still wasn't dialating. They had a belt around my waist with a monitor to guage the intensity of the contractions and another belt to monitor the baby's heartbeat. Around midnight or so we put on a Pink Floyd video and I kept my eyes closed and just zoned out foccussing on the music which played for hours. I didn't open my eyes at all until his breakfast came...I was hungry but they won't let you eat once your water breaks, so I got to suck on ice chips and have sips of apple juice. My contractions were very strong but I still wasn't dialating beyond 2cm. I didn't want pain meds because I felt that keeping that out of my system would be best for my daughter. The contraction monitor was showing my contractions at well above where they normally would be when it was time to deliver and I kept thinking, ok, any minute now this will all be over. Finally around 1 or 2 in the afternoon I accepted demerol <sp> and that did nothing for me. Then around 3:30pm I asked them to go ahead and do the eppidural, I couldn't take the pain any more. They got an injection into my spine and immediately I dialated to 8 cm and my water broke a second time (still not sure what that was about). Then within minutes I was fully dialated and they didn't have time to get the eppidural fully hooked up, so I got one more shot and it was time to start pushing. I only had to push through about 5 or 6 contractions and the baby was out, born at 3: 51pm. The dr. joked and said he better get his baseball mit out to catch the baby as I had a lot of strength in my pushing. I wound up hemmoraging very badly and had 3 or 4 people pushing on my stomach along with some medication to help stop the bleeding. That pain was worse than the labor and although I was silent the whole duration of labor, I was screaming in absolute agony when they did this to me. My bp dropped dangerously low as I lost a lot of blood and I was out of it for quite some time after everything was done. They kept me in the hospital for 5 days afterwards.
I would suggest that if she's induced and still not dialating, go for the eppidural after only a few hours. I'm convinced that is what made me dialate. Also, the contractions that come with an induced labor are stronger than natural labor contractions, no need to suffer when there is medication that won't harm the baby.

Nipple stimulation is also a help to some women to get things going. We tried it for 2 weeks but it didn't help me but at least it was a pleasant experience. LOLOriginally posted by jipped genes

I would get induced before I'd go into a c-section. Recovery from a c-section is tough especially when you have a newborn that needs your attention too. I had my first vaginally and I was fine. My friends that had the c-sections had a tougher time boucing back... don't forget, when they cut you open, they cut the stomach muscles, then sew them back together. That's rough.

I agree with dreamgirl. If a woman can give birth vaginally, the recovery is easier. There are also risks associated with any surgery like a reaction to the anestessia or post-op infection. C-sections are generally used when there is concern for the baby. She should discuss all of her options with her dr. to address any concerns.
Good luck, bad1!
