I think it's normal to let out a grunt or growl on the last few reps, especially when your bustin' your ass w/ heavy weights. Unfortunately, there's not too many hardcore people who train at my gym, so while I may not be screaming at the top of my lungs, they tend to stare even with some mild grunting, and I think the sound of all those 45 lb plates grabs there attention too. Screw 'em.

There's scientific evidence that grunting to pull out the last 1 or 2 in a heavy set DOES work. Granted, I don't wanna be in a gym where eveybody's makin noise, but I sure as hell don't wanna be in a gym where everybody's worried about whether the "spa" atmosphere is gonna be lost. I'll make my noises if I need to.
