  • Give poor Chris advie:

So, I'm not really loving my college experience so I have applied to transfer to a different school. I have applied to PSU University Park and Purdue West Lafayette campuses. I have recieved my confirmation of acceptance from Purdue and am waiting to hear from PSU. If anyone has attended either of these school, what did you think of them? Advie very much appriciated. Any type of school advice is greatly appriciated.

    Thanks,
    Chris

what aren't you liking, it's better to get what you want while you can do it. I went to school just to get away, now I am working full time, married and trying to go back to school, for what I have no idea. Do what you want while you can, it's gets harder after.

I agree with Keiser. What aren't you loving? If it's the class size, professors, etc....ok I see reason to transfer. If it's the fact that you can't find a party on Fridays...well too bad for you :)

I guess I made it sound more like I wasn't liking the school environment here, but its not that. I love the environment in SoCal and its tons of fun, but its like I'm still in HS. I want to go to a school where I might face a harder curriculum. Thats why I asked if anyone had attended these schools, to hear a little about the curriculum.

I have friends at PSU and they love it and it surely isn't easy. They have some of the best Science curriculums and research in the nation. So if you are looking at any major in Science, I would highly recommend it.

You'll get the best education in the enviroment your most comfortable with, even if its a high school kind of atmosphere, if the courses and studies are up too par, and you are doing well with them, stay with it

In NYC, we have two systems, CUNY, and SUNY, and the best advice I got from my professors was to stay with CUNY(city) and when I go for my masters, and so on, then you and get the degree from the schools with the "name" you get the same education either way, its how far you push yourself intow what you are doing that really counts

What is your major, bro? Both Penn State and Purdue have excellent engineering schools, which is what I am most familiar with. Most Big 10 schools have excellent engineering programs.

Keep in mind that both are going to be much colder than SoCal. It may not seem important now, but I went to school at U. of Illinois in Urbana, IL and I remember it being -20F one day with wind chill at -45 when I had to go to class at 8am. It gets pretty old. It is certainly not the most important consideration but something to weigh in the equation.

First, I just want to thank all who have commented. My major is engineering. I applied as an Engineering majore at Purdue and got in. PSU main campus was full when I applied so I applied as a Kinesiology major to Delaware County, finishing at University Park. So, naturaly I am leaning more towards Purdue, but I think that Kinesiology would be a cool major. If that wasn't true I could always transfer majors/campuses, plus PSU a lot less expensive and I'm sure my parents would love in state rates.

As for going with a no-name school for undergraduate work and a big name school for graduate work, I thought about that. I just don't think I can stay here much longer. It's pretty easy and I am starting to slack off because of the ease. I need something to be constantly pushing me or I don't do anything about it cause I'm lazy, that’s why I really want to transfer. If I go to Purdue, engineering will rape me of all my time and I will surely have to work hard. And if I go to PSU, well I don't know about that yet cause I'm not going to get into engineering...so we'll see.

I guess I will just have to wait and see what PSU says; this might all be for naught if I don't get into PSU. :-\

                    Chris:
I know the discussion has been about degree quality, but since both are good schools, my vote's for PSU on the basis of campus (where it is, not what it looks like - Yes, Purdue has a nice campus but it's in W. Lafayette - ever been there? It ain't no metropolis), cost and closer to home.

Good luck, whichever way you go.

I joined a fraternity. I had the time of my life. I partied harder than anyone met alot of great people and still go back to have fun. There is always someone there who can help with hard subjects( free tutor), They would wake me up for class if I was slacking I had a nice place to live plus It was cheaper then Living anwhere else in town including dues. I discovered College is nothing more than time management. It is a little different at a big school. A big fraternity were I went was about 30 guys active. You see everyone on a daily basis. Imagine living in a hotel with your 30 best friends.

Well, it looks like I'm going to end up at Purude if I like the campus. If I don't I am going to re-appy to PSU University Park for Spring 2005.

I am at U. of Ne. I would also suggest looking into the greek system there. I live in a fraternity with over 50 actives, and joining it was probably one of the best decisions i have made in college. The support you get from the guys is unmatchable.
