Of course it is normal to use lower weight when just starting out. If your muscles are not used to moving a certain weight in a certain range of motion, you will have to start of slow to train your muscles to become accustomed to that weight and movement. Start off slow and use good technique to avoid injury. Don't worry about what someone else is lifting. If you cannot lift that weight, it is obvious that your muscles do not need that weight to be stimulated. The only reason that those people are using heavier weights is because they have reached a point in their training where light weights no longer stimulate growth the way the heavy weights will.

Re: Weakness
hey man dont worry about it bro. We all start off that way in our lives. I started working out with 15 pounds in each side. I would get embrassed becasue i thought people were going to make fun of me, but i said to myself, "fuck them", i lift what i can and no body is gonna tell me how much to lift. Im the one with the last laugh now bwcause im bigger and lift more than them now. BUt yeah it dont matter bro , start off light and u will be lifting heavier later. Dont worry about it.Originally posted by Topher
