  • The U.S. has lost the war in Iraq

The so called deal in Fallujah where the Marines pull out and a so called Iraqi force under American command tries to control the city shows that we have lost the war. If the Marines were to attack the city, thousands of Iraqi civilians would probably die. And guess what? We do not have enough troops in Iraq to control the violent reactions that would erupt across the country. That's because chickenhawk Rumsfeld canned the general who 18 months ago said we needed 350,000 troops to invade and occupy Iraq. Now the Rand Institute says we need 500,000 troops to occupy the country and we have 135,000 there.

Let's do some math boys and girls. 500,000 troops would cost $200 billion a year. That does not include the cost of reconstruction and that is on top of the $500 billion budget deficit we are going to have this year. Well, well, well. Where could we come up with $200 billion? A $2/gallon gas tax would generate that. Or, elimination of the Bush tax cuts for business and the wealthy would do it.

And, oh by the way, 500,000 troops would require the draft again.

I am being somewhat sarcastic but if you are going to go to war, win it. And winning it means destroying not only the government, but the country and society so that they know they have lost and end further resistance. This means thousands of dead civilians just like in Germany and Japan during World War II.

So what will happen now? The insurgents now control Fallujah, Naja, Kuba and they know that all they have to do is seize more towns and city neighborhoods because we do not have the forces to occupy and control everything. Nor do we have the will to really do what is necessary to win the war.

So, more troops' lives will be wasted because we are going to pull out of that sandpit. Old George W will declare victory and leave, saying that we didn't find any WMD and hand over the country to some poor Iraqis. And the country will break up in a civil war that may bring in the Iranians, Turks and Saudis into a fine war.

Hope you have a horse because gas may be a bit hard to find.

We wouldn't be in this situation if we would've just flattened the fucking place to begin with.

I'd love to see the middle east bombed back to the stone age. Oh, wait a minute...most of it is already there.

We have to get out of there sooner or later- I prefer sooner- And yes, we could "win" the war and level the whole region and turn it into a Las Vegas style resort with the Saudi Royal Family serving cocktails to college kids on spring break and take all the oil we want and tell the U.N. to go to hell- but I don't see that happening- give that rat hole of a country back to the people that live there, bring our troops home and I really don't care what happens to them after we leave.

You wouldn't be in this situation if the US had just minded it's own business.

That would be great! Gas would cost 1 cent per gallon, steroids and other drugs would be legal for sale over the counter. And income tax would be about 2%.

And yet you wouldn't have the freedom to enjoy any of it. ;)

We ALL wish the world could just take care of itself. But if you examine the history of world politics, you will see that without real fear of reprisal (from a super-power such as US), aggressive fuckers start to abuse their neighbors, take over other countries, and build nasty shit like nuclear bombs. So, USA is the hated father figure who threatens to punish you of you fuck up. We can do nothing right in the eyes of the world, but they sure do take our money and defense quick enough when they need it.

Hypocrisy is universal, and I'll take our flaws as long as I can sleep at night knowing our guns are protecting us.
