Weird .exe files showing up here...

I sign onto AOL and sign off. It automatically downloads some update onto my computer and installs it. When I go to sign back onto AOL it asks me if I want to run some .exe file and I say no. Then AOL won't connect, so I restart the computer and this time answer yes assuming it's related to the AOL update. I answer some IM's and e-mail, things are fine. Then I connect to IE and some more .exe files start popping up.

I wrote a couple down and wondered if anyone else was getting these...

I don't know if my computer is just acting wacko or if these are viruses or what. I'll be running antivirus software that was just updated a couple of days ago. I hate it when AOL does these automatic updates!!!

Try d/ling this free spyware program called Spybot-Search & Destroy. You can get it here: http://www.snapfiles.com/ . It will find all spyware on your PC and you can then delete it.

Candle is right, or try Lavasoft ad-aware. I think you goto http://www.lavasoft.com for that. If that doesn't work and you have windows XP, try doing a system restore, back to a day which you know the computer was working properly. If that also doesn't work. Uninstall AIM, then download the newest version from the site, and reinstall. You won't lose your contacts, as they are stored on the AIM database.

I ran McAffee and it found nothing (it was updated just a couple of days ago). I ran Spybot and it found a trojan horse and the usual array of spyware. I deleted the files but after I opened IE I got two .exe prompts, one was pcsvc.exe which was on here earlier. I'm wondering if this is coming from AOL. When I went to sign off at work it gave me that same update and installation.

Puddles maybe you can go to mcaffee's settings and set it to detect trojan horses, spyware, adware, etc....i've got norton 2004 and it detects them all as long as it set to. by the way i've always felt that programs like spybot were spyware themselves. if it's almost time for you to renew mcaffee you should give norton a try i think it's better.

The computer's fine now. I also said spybot by mistake, the program I use is spy sweeper. I've had norton on here in the past but there's some weird conflict and it really slows dow the computer so that's why mcaffee is being used instead. Keiser mentioned something to me that was a good point, the problem file may have been downloaded before yesterday but it just now activated itself. I'll check the computer at work later, if that one's infected with the same thing I'll call AOL since it also gave me an automatic update yesterday. Thanks for the help and ideas folks. :)

Puddles you had some spyware called Myway. My computer got that crap and it was like pulling a tooth getting it off. I finally had to pay for a spybot to get it off b/c the free ones like spybot, spysweeper, and adaware couldn't get it completely off. I'd make sure it's off there cuz it tries to take over everything including search engines
