  • Tuesday Baseball Picks

2-2 last night for a loss of -$37

running posted total profit of +$1,117

    todays picks are:

    Philadelphia Phillies -$105
The Mets are 4-5 against lefties and being a long time Met semi fan, I can tell you that lefties have created a problem for the Mets. Thome has been out a few games and possibly could be back tonight. Traschel has been magnificent for the Mets but the hot Phillies are in town. The Phillies have won 5 of 6 without Polanco and Thome for the most part. Mets have problems with teams over .500. They have a 6-10 record against them. I think it's time for a letdown for Metsie's after an exciting sweep of the lowly Rockies this past weekend.

    Cincinnati Reds +$105
When you're hot..you're hot! Currently the hottest team in the league. The Reds have won 8 out of their last 9 to surprisingly take over 1st place in the NL central. Many predictied the Astros, Cubs, or St. Louis (in any order) to occupy the 1st 3 spots on the standings but the Reds have done it with timesly hitting and superb pitching. Wilson has an ERA of 1.64 in his last 3 starts. 1.23 at home. Beckett hasn't fared well lately. He has an ERA of 4.12 in his last 3 starts. 6.52 on the road. I made a big mistake by going against them yesterday. I'm not repeating it again.

    Houston Astros -$130
Two aces on the mound. One has an ERA of 1.12 in his last 3 starts. The other has an ERA of 5.76 in his last 3 starts. Ironically, I'm sticking with the one with the higher ERA. Oswalt is not the type of pitcher to display that high an ERA. And Zambrano is not the type to display that low an ERA wither. 2 things come into effect here. One is that this is a division rival. Every game can be crucial at the end of the season. Look at what the Reds did. 2nd is the fact that Sosa will be amiss in the Cubs line-up. Houston is glad to go back to home cooking and snap the 4 game losing streak they inherited by the Reds sweep. The Astros are 15-10 against division opponents. 4 of those loses happened these past 4 days. I sense a turnaround for the Stros in this 5 game home stand.

    Boston Red Sox -$155
Another marquee match-up. Hudson vs. Schilling. I trust Schilling's stuff better than Hudson. Besides the Red sox have the more potent offense and they are at home.

San Francisco Giants RUNLINE -$120 (ML is-$245)
Unless you really have it, then go for it. Very hefty price here, but this is a mismatch. Fossum (8.00 ERA in his last 3 starts/ 11.25 on the road), versus the hot Schmidt (1.50 in his last 3 starts, a one hitter in his last start). I am gonna play it as a runline to drop some of the chalk.

    Milwaukee Brewers +$105
Another good home dog. Santos has an ERA of 2.65 in his last 3 starts. Ishii has an ERA of 3.71 in his last 3 starts. 6.08 on the road. He also walks a ton. LA has struggled offensively while the Brewers have found new life with their young club. This one should be a gimme.

San Diego Padres / Colorado Rockies over 12-$105
Back to hitters paradise we go. Kennedy is beginning to revert to the way he was while with D'Rays. He is a good pitcher, but not as good as his recrd indicates. His ERA is 4.00 in his last 3 starts. Incrediably, his ERA is just 2.97 in Coors field. He faces a tough offensive lineup tonight in the Padres. San Diego is 6-5 against lefties and average 4.5 runs against them. That should pick up a bit in Coors. Valdes has an ERA of 5.82 in his last 3 starts. Helton is expected back in the lineup tonight, so I expect the normal high run output from both clubs.

    Cleveland Indians -$110
Seattle is 11-20 against righties. 15-25 on grass. 6-15 on the road. 5-10 after a win. They average only 3.8 runs against righty pitchers. Go with the home team.

    St. Louis Cardinals -$165
Benson (who will likely be traded to a contender) is not displaying a reason why anyone would want him in their ball club. He has an ERA of 7.00 in his last 3 starts. Suppan (besides him not being one of the best pitchers to wager on) has done better, 4.11 ERA in his last 3 starts. The potent Cards line-up should have more than enough to win this match-up
