  • BILL O'REILLY HOST: Bill Cosby

This is a partial transcript from "The O'REILLY Factor," May 20, 2004...

BILL O'REILLY HOST: In the "Personal Story" segment tonight, Bill Cosby (search) spoke at a gala in Washington on Monday and severely criticized African-Americans who are not raising their children responsibly.

Cosby compared these people to the blacks of the 1960's and said, "These people marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking round...the lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal. These people are not parenting, they're buying things for kids -- $500 sneakers, for what? And they won't spend $200 for "Hooked on Phonics"...I can't even talk the way these people talk: "why you ain't, where you is..."

    food for thought?

Its good to hear someone call them out.... obviously only a black person can get away with it to another black person...

but i can say that there is white trash out there acting the same way.

kinda like the saying there are black people and then there are Ni***Rs giving the rest of us a bad name.... Chirs Rock.

same holds true for us white folks.

yeah I read an editorial on that today. Blacks need to account for more of their actions but it still doesn't excuse the more than prevlant continuation of rasicm by some people. we seem to talk past each other too much and not too each other.

sure you can pick apart the statement and then refer it to anyone... BUT what you CANNOT DO is take the whole statment and refer it to anyone: "These people marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education..."

It basically comes down to accountability, none wants to take responsibility for anything. Well shit if I am poor it must be someones fault or if my kids are stupid its not my fault. Black white no matter what color the person everyone has an oppurtunity, maybe not in things that rich people do but there is always a job out there, instead of saying fuck it I will live off the MAn.

yes, now that is a very ture statement that i think everyone here agrees with... the fact of "accountability" for ourselves. where the arguement comes into play is that in the past, those of african-heritage were not given equal rights and therefor could forgo self-accountability for SOME of their actions. what is their excuse TODAY.

Edit: when i say "their" - i am referring to those that are specifically not taking self-accountability... NOT the African-heritage as a whole.

Gotta love how some people are saying that Bill Cosby has lost touch with reality since he's got money now. The way he got his money was by bettering himself. He's got a stronger grip on reality than most people since he's lived on both sides of the fence. This is America and where there is a will, there is a way, it's been proven over and over again. People are just too damn lazy to work for what they want, always looking for an easy way out and someone to blame for their own failures.

I agree-at the very least Bill Cosby got this issue out in the open, so I definitely give him credit for that. This problem is way too huge for society to continue to ignore and it will never end unless we stop letting people get away with it.

I blame the government for not holding these people accountable for their actions! When the gov. is giving people EITC(earned income tax credit) for every child they have, what is their incentive to stop? I mean anyone, regardless of race, who is flipping burgers at McD's and has 8 children knows that at the end of the year they are going to get a nice chunk of change back from Uncle Sam! They get a nice check from the IRS and do nothing with it to benefit their kids or their situation! Get Uncle Sam to stop giving them money for all their kids and would be willing to bet that they would stop having them! IMO anyway!
