  • Need some input on Stitches please

Stitches Need some help I have never had them in my 30 years but now I have three stupid little stitches in my right hand and they are a pain in the ass. So here goes I was told they could come out in 10 days now do I need to go and get them taken out or is it something I could do at home? and should I keep them covered or open to the air.

Depending on what you do with your hand you can keep them uncovered but keep them clean! You can take them out yourself too! Just make sure you pull on the side that has the knot in it! If you pull the other side and pull the knot through the skin it will hurt!

The reason you go to the doc's to get them taken out is to be sure they are ready to be taken out and look ok.

You should go to the doc but if you don't and if it's only 3 stitches and it's been 10 days, taking them off yourself won't be difficult. Make sure the scissors you cut the stitch with are sterilized and for good measure, clean the stitches themselves before pulling them through (antibacterial soap will be fine or some alcohol, then let it dry for a minute). Snip one side, then tug on the side with the knot. It won't hurt. Afterwards, keep the wound dry. You can apply topical vit. e tomorrow if you want to help speed healing and reduce scaring.

When I broke my hand they gave me 5 stitches. They took them out 7 days later. As long as it's started to heal and won't pull apart if you take em out then you should be good. Looked really easy. Just like bad1 said, use a pair of tweezers to pull on the side with the knot, then cut it under the knot and pull it through.

I always take out my stitches. No big deal.
