My gods are Newton, Einstein, Maxwell and Darwin. They have explained most physical and natural phenomena quite satisfactorily, so by Occam's Razor, I don't think I need to invoke a supernatural being for this purpose.
I generally use religious philosophy more as a blueprint for living my life in a righteous way, rather than absolute truth. I find eastern religious philosophies and animistic traditions of various indigenous people more to my liking in this regard rather than western ones.

my religious beliefs aside, it is interesting to me you bring albert einstein he was a very religious man.
So were Newton and Darwin. Newton was deeply religious and Darwin actually either trained for the clergy or was going to before he set out on the Beagle.
My point is that for me, Newton and Einstein, through their theories, have explained most of the mechanical workings of the universe, while Maxwell's theory of electromagnetic radiation has, along with Planck and Einstein, explained most/all of the electromagnetic side of the physical world. On the biological side, Darwin's theory of evolution is a truly profound idea, probably one of the 2 or 3 most profound concepts ever developed by humans (I would probably add wave/particle duality and the fact that the earth is not the center of the universe to the list).
The fact that many of these individuals were deeply religious only increases my respect for them - they were able to shed their dogmatic beliefs and embrace what their science was telling them in an age when it would have been more difficult to do so than today (think of Galileo).
Newton once said in great humility - "If I see further, it is because I am standing on the shoulders of giants." Now he can be truly counted as one of the biggest of the giants as well.

Oh c'moneverybody,
We are all adults here. I know it doesn't mean we all act like it sometimes.:D
But I thought this was a discussion board where we can express our opinions on certain topics openly and hopefully not get condemded for expressing them.
This topic isn't about who is right or wrong because frankly niether side can provide concrete evidence. They are just beliefs. I just thought this topic could provide some good conversation about how different everyone's views are. You know, debate alittle without getting in to a pissing match.
that doesn't happen here phish, people live by there beliefs. So saying it's "just a belief" downplays the importance of the matter. I say we leave this one alone before it's another drama fest

Hey SC,
I'm not sure what to make of him but he does say things he could have possibly have no way of knowing. I dunno, maybe he's just lucky. Been quite awhile since I've seen him.
I didn't know he made predications. Is that how it is perceived? Talking to the other side (spirit world) is just making predictions or basically flat out lying.

I certaintly don't mean to downplay anything cuz this isn't a topic that anyone takes likely. Just meant each side has their beliefs and are entitled to them. It's controversial which does make for good conversation.
But I'm just a newbie here. So maybe the best thing is to just leave it alone. Which is what'll do.

phish
:agree: Sounds good in theory but eventually someone will take something the wrong and it will turn into a pissing match! We had a political topic a while back and this kid Chris, who probably had just come off of his mothers tit, turned it into a pissing match! The next thing you know he was calling out Bouncer on a seperate thread and calling him asshole and just being stupid! Religion and politics are never good topics!
poeple have been fighting over religon for a long time. and what is going to make this any different. very sensative subject. i am all for not talking about this.
