Sorry to go a little off topic here, but has anyone heard of the new body armor that is being developed? It gives you mobility like normal clothing, but when it is struck the fibers solidify and become bullet proof.

A little on the new stuff: http://www.kevlargloves.com/pdfs/MTPpressrelease.pdf

again, sorry for going a little off topic

I have heard of such armor bdubb, but I believe it is more in the developmental phase. I would love to see something like that developed though. The warfughting lab in the Marine Corps sends out experimental stuff to the fleet all the time for testing. From weapons to shovels to rain gear and body armor: we test, try to break it, tell them what we wlike and dislike and they work to improve it. We have seen some great advancements in communications equipment and load bearing gear.

I just hope that the 3 brave officers were not killed on a "drug bust." It is so stupid to continue to try to fight that. Put a mountain of crack in the park and if anyone wants it, let them go for it. Use the law enforcement money to educate the kids how stupid drugs are. That will do far more good. By the way, let's hope that Mr. SC or someone else on juice was not the one involved. Get my drift?

thats very true. We need to talk to kids about drugs and all, cause im my opinion I think its best to educate tomorrows future about drugs, maybe we cannot change this generation but the ones to come we could. I spoken to alot of kids I work with of how dumb and loserish it is to join gangs and use drugs. Easy money YES, but theres a price with that DEATH OR JAIL.

yeah that'll work. it's parent's responsibility to teach their kids about drugs, not schools, or the gov't or programs for that. there's always gonna be drugs and alcohol. let's not forget that. i don't know a single person that crashed a car because they got high, yet i do know people that have been in accidents because they were drunk. myself included, 3 years ago i got a dui for drinking and driving. although you do have a good idea, use law enforcement funds for programs, i mean it's not like cops need guns and ammo, or training, and body armor. hell they don't even need squad cars, they can walk a suspect into the precinct. or let's keep their salaries at less than 35,000 a year, it's not as if they put they're life on the line arresting the scumbags of the earth. parents just teach your kids about drugs and alcohol, and don't be afraid to ground or punish them. parents today are too lenient, but i understand that because some of them are getting stoned in the next room also.

ANY ammunition from any rifle more powerful than a .22 is armor piercing. Full copper jackets on 7.62x39 mm ammo (SKS ammo) would go through the kevlar vests with no problem but so would full copper jackets on a 30-30 bullet.

It does suck that 3 cops died serving a warrant. I hope they kill the bastard who did it.

You must not be referring to the 3 cops that were murdered in Alabama.

                            Psyko1,

I'm not sure that you were serious or being sarcastic or not. If you were though I cannot agree with this statement as a blanket determination of all cops. I have several friends in Chicago who are police officers and are all upstanding individuals. One of my closest friends is a uniformed police officer in Chicago. He was formerly plainclothes but wanted to go back to uniformed division. He and two other officers received commendations for saving 20 people in a burning building, kicking in the doorway and brick wall which had partially collapsed. He currently is on the crime response unit, which details several teams of police officers to the highest violent murder areas in the city. Every two weeks, the data gets reviewed and he and his partner get sent to whatever precinct becomes the new highest violent murder area. This has gone on for several months now and he and others continually have been placed in the most dangerous types of situations. Stuff like domestic disputes, drug related murders, armed burglaries, etc... I assure you that police officers DO put themselves at risk to life and limb on a daily basis and frequently are outnumbered in a dangeroust situation. Maybe not all cops or maybe not small town cops so much, but I can truly appreciate his efforts even though I don't live there. I can also say that $35,000. is a pittance for people who put their lives on the line when football players make millions to play game. I know there are bad cops and slacker types too. These people exist in every job type in the US but to blanket all of them as lazy or useless.

Again, if you were being facetious in your post, I am sorry.

yes I believe psyko was being sarcastic showing that cops are underfunded in the equipment and training department, while wasting money on drug enforcment. :D

definetely sarcasm my friend. i was referring to pointcove's post about how funds should go elsewhere to a mountain of crack in a park. i totally respect what cops do. hell i even wanted to become one at sometime, and be a homocide detective, but unfortunately being who i am and who i know i'm sure i'd end up arresting friends if i were to chose that line of work. but like i said cops and firemen are greatly underpaid and don't get nearly enough recognition for what they do.
