Any of you guys built up your own gym? I'm looking for the best place to shop. So far been looking at ironcompany.com and bigfitness.com. I think i'm going to start out with building up a dumbbell set. Then onto barbell set, adjustable bench, squat rack, etc. Once it's all built up, i'll be ready to ditch the gym. Considering the $72 a month I pay for me and my girl, I done already should have a bad ass gym by now. I love this 20-225lb dumbbell set though. $1700 though. :(

Doesnt that just suck ass. Considering the $72 a month I pay, I think it's only fair that my gym could get some 150lb dbs. They're only $170.50 for a pair. That's only 3 months of my membership fees and there are other guys there that need em too. It pisses me off cause the personal trainer guy there is the one to assesses if they are needed, and he says "just use the hammer strength or cable machines, they're the same thing." I'd join golds, but they're 45 mins away. :mad:Originally posted by MuGGsy
damn, my gym goes to 100 and it's made me use barbells for alot of shit now... 225 lb dbs *drool*

I loved my home gym had it for 15 years.
Note don't know where you live but if you get your doctor to write a note saying you need equipment for your health you do not have to pay taxes.
You can look in want ads, lot's of folks have beautiful weight sets, like tread mills dying to get rid of.
Takes a little longer, might be more affordable if you're adamant.
Good Luck
It saved me 30-35 minutes of drive time a day, for me worht it

Sometimes I think that, but then I see that if I have everything at home, then I have no excuse not to be working out. Sometimes I have issues getting my ass to the gym on weekends. If the stuff is just downstairs, then i'm already there, and the mindset will kick in. No need to get in the car and drive.Originally posted by THE BOUNCER
That is a nice set of DB's but I dont think I could work out at home. I need the gym invironment. Plus my gym goes up to 225lb DB's so no worrys.

I'm looking to set up a home gym, also. I've been looking at Ebay and they have some great prices. The only bad thing is most of them can't be delivered and none of the quality sets have been near me so picking it up is practically impossible..:(

I walk 4 feet out of my bedroom and I have all the stuff I need right there. Even an eliptical near the TV. It's nice and yeah it's true there are no excuses then. I still got to the gym but some days I just don't feel like it so I'd rather just get it done at home....works fine for me :)Originally posted by beefcake

True, I work at one too...but sometimes I just wanna get out of there after getting done with work cause if I stay and workout I'll get people bugging me for some free advice when I'm just trying to get a workout and go home. Other times I'll stay and workout. I kinda go by how I feel at the timeOriginally posted by Shibby
I like the gym. There's alot of motivation there. You always see someone better.
Oh I guess it also helps that I work there, gets me alot of attention from the ladies. :P
