"Doctors at first worried that the absence of myostatin would cause physical problems, perhaps impairing the boy's heart. But he seems normal, except for his physique and strength. "He has very large muscles," Lee said. "
"If they work on humans, myostatin blockers almost certainly will find another use — as an athletic performance booster. Researchers say such compounds likely would provide a significant advantage.
"It's going to have a lot less side effects than steroids, and probably bigger effects on muscles," said University of Pennsylvania physiologist H. Lee Sweeney, who studies a related hormone called IGF-1, which spurs muscle growth."
"The potential treatments, involving myostatin, a protein that controls muscle growth, also could have a dark side, giving athletes another illicit chemical means to boost their performance."
"Dr. Schuelke cited one concern: Muscle cells are surrounded by immature satellite cells that lie dormant until the muscle is injured. Then they migrate into the muscle, replacing injured or dead cells. A recent paper indicated that myostatin might normally function to keep satellite cells quiescent. Without myostatin, he said, the satellite cells might be so active building muscle that they become depleted early in life."

Yeah. Nothing in life is free. There are always tradeoffs. I think that the key to everything in life is balance. If you don't drink enough water your body doesn't clear the toxins from your system but drinking too much water will give you an electrolyte imbalance and you won't have enough nutrients in your system. There's a fine line with everything.
Read this months Scientific American. It has a great article on gene doping.
A doctor has already produced that little kids effects in mice.
Two, there are a breed of cattle specifically breed to have this mutation, called BELGIAN BLUE BULL. It also talks alot about IGF1.
Here is the link: http://sciam.com/article.cfm?chanID=...mber=1&catID=2
or just to sciam.com and look for Gene Doping article.
Soon, ladies, soon steriords will be a thing of the past.
