"Cross Lake is a very popular lake in Shreveport, Lousiana for skiing and even swimming. This pic was taken Friday afternoon by a local TV station helicopter; that is a DEER in the gator's mouth, to give you an idea of the size of this jumbo alligator!?

I don't know, it's tough to tell how big it is. That's a doe and it could be small or even a Keydeer. I was born and raised in south Florida and we see them so much we just forget about it. I went to school at UF and there's Lake Alice right downtown on campus that you can see gators at everyday. They even had to put signs up about keeping dogs on leashes because they were getting nabbed so often, and that's right in the middle of town.

Gators are usually not very fast, so seeing it with a deer is surprising. The gator in the pic here looks huge!
My community is full of lakes with gators and although there are "no fishing" signs posted, guys will fish and have their kids and dogs with them...pretty stupid.

It isn't a key deer and it isn't a fawn. This is Louisiana, not Florida. Key deer are indiginous to Florida only ( the FL Keys). Fawns have spots. That is an adult whitetail deer. It could be a buck or doe since the bucks lose their antlers in the spring and grow them back in late summer. This late in the summer, I would expect the bucks to be growing velvet antlers so it is likely a doe. LA deer are kind of small but that deer still weighs probably 90 to 110 lbs. That gator has a 3 to 4 ft long HEAD! That is a 16 to 18 ft gator.Originally posted by decadecadeca
