  • Kinda gross but I need some help..

As you guys know, we went to the Dominican Republic last week. Well, since I have been home I have had non stop diarrhea that has now lasted almost 7 days. I am aware of travelers diarrhea and I know that it is common when going to 3rd world countries like the Dominican Republic but I thought that it was only supposed to last a few days. I have taken Immodium AD for diarrhea and it had no effect. I know this is a funny thread but this is starting to get old and very annoying. Anyone had this before or know anything I could do to stop this? Thanks for any help.

    Sorry you're feeling so shitty.

You should probably go to the doc and until then, eat very bland foods. Keep your water intake high so you don't dehydrate too. Hope ya feel better quickly.

Here's some info. for ya and a link:

    Tips About Food

Until diarrhea subsides, try to avoid milk products and foods that are greasy, high-fiber, or very sweet. These foods tend to aggravate diarrhea.

As you improve, you can add soft, bland foods to your diet, including bananas, plain rice, boiled potatoes, toast, crackers, cooked carrots, and baked chicken without the skin or fat. For children, the pediatrician may recommend what is called the BRAT diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast.

    Preventing Traveler's Diarrhea
Traveler's diarrhea happens when you consume food or water contaminated with bacteria, viruses, or parasites. You can take the following precautions to prevent traveler's diarrhea when you go abroad:

Do not drink any tap water, not even when brushing your teeth.

Do not drink unpasteurized milk or dairy products.

Do not use ice made from tap water.

Avoid all raw fruits and vegetables (including lettuce and fruit salad) unless they can be peeled and you peel them yourself.

Do not eat raw or rare meat and fish.

Do not eat meat or shellfish that is not hot when served to you.

Do not eat food from street vendors.

You can safely drink bottled water (if you are the one to break the seal), carbonated soft drinks, and hot drinks like coffee or tea.

Depending on where you are going and how long you are staying, your doctor may recommend that you take antibiotics before leaving to protect you from possible infection.

When should a doctor be consulted?

Although usually not harmful, diarrhea can become dangerous or signal a more serious problem. You should see the doctor if any of the following is true:

You have diarrhea for more than 3 days.
You have severe pain in the abdomen or rectum.
You have a fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.
You see blood in your stool or have black, tarry stools.
    You have signs of dehydration.
If your child has diarrhea, do not hesitate to call the doctor for advice. Diarrhea can be dangerous in children if too much fluid is lost and not replaced quickly.

What tests might the doctor do?

Diagnostic tests to find the cause of diarrhea include the following:

Medical history and physical examination. The doctor will need to know about your eating habits and medication use and will examine you for signs of illness.

Stool culture. Lab technicians analyze a sample of stool to check for bacteria, parasites, or other signs of disease or infection.

Blood tests. Blood tests can be helpful in ruling out certain diseases.

Fasting tests. To find out if a food intolerance or allergy is causing the diarrhea, the doctor may ask you to avoid lactose (found in milk products), carbohydrates, wheat, or other foods to see whether the diarrhea responds to a change in diet.

Sigmoidoscopy. For this test, the doctor uses a special instrument to look at the inside of the rectum and lower part of the colon.

Colonoscopy. This test is similar to sigmoidoscopy, but the doctor looks at the entire colon.

You can also get it when you eat salad's in 3rd world countries. Cause they wash off the lettuce with their water.

it can be a simple case of food poisoning, it can also be ameobic dissentary, so get it checked by a dr., having lived in 3rd world countries i've run that gauntlet before, and after 7days you deserve a break. the tests may be gross (always gotta love pooping in a cup), but if you've had this that long its something more serious, take care bro

I called the Doc and told him the symptoms and he perscribed me an antibiotic called Doxycycline, the same drug used to cure anthrax! lol. Doc said that most likely its a bacterial infection from something I ate down there and this medicine should cure it. Thanks for all the reply's. Its a funny subject but good god!!!.. I have had enough of this shit! LITERALY!!

ouch bro, i get that alot also. I think its because of the foods I eat. There are certain foods or drinks i cannot have, with milk being the #1.

I would also get this from drinking too many protein shakes without food in my stomach.

Must have been the foods u ate over there. Did u drink any water from there? I say this because before I would go to Mexico alot and the water from there was nasty, instead of being clear it was dirty. I would see my family members get sick and all, since where u went is a third world country. Thats why In a way im glad i live here in the US where the gov inspects the foods, meats we all eat, if they dont pass, they cannot be sold.:)

Yes bro, alot of the food and water in 3rd world countries have bacteria that we in America are not used to. I eat something that had bacteria in it and this is the result. I got some antibiotics now so it should take care of it.

Seven days of diarrhea? Damn, man...your balloon knot must be on fire....

Seriously, though....that's gotta hurt. I hope the antibiotics bring it to a halt. You should have called your doc earlier...that way you would have stated treatement earlier...but also, he could have given you a script for Donnagel...that stuff will clamp the shit pipes down much better than Immodium. Or, if your doc is a really good guy...he write you a script for Diban. It's an anti-diarrheal that consists of powdered opium as it's main ingredient (opioids are very effective in stopping the runs). You get relief, and a pretty nice high.

Bouncer, if you have any strong pain meds like vicodin or morphine, that should help calm down the intestines.

If your butt's sore get some Prep. H ointment and put it on the t.p. before you wipe. Also, get the t.p. with aloe lotion, don't use cheap stuff. :)

Maybe some dude who prepared your food got jealous or mad and decided to poison the big guy-
Maybe Pauper Paul was in the kitchen. Anyway, hope you get over it soon.
