doom3 ships august 3rd and i want to buy a new computer so that i can play it. :) now i'm considering buying an alienware computer for about $2900. but i saw a sony pc with the same memory, same graphics card and same processor speed for $1700. does anyone have an alienware pc? is its performance worth the extra $1200? it'll actually come to around $3300 because i'd get the 256mb card instead of the 128. other than that they're pretty much the same i guess.

alienware is way overrated... you're paying for little bells and whistles. if you're gonna get a pre-config'd system, go with the Dell XPS Gen3 for about a grand less with the same hardware inside. or build your own from scratch for under 2k with same hardware.

I was very close to buying an Alienware, then I just decided to order all my parts and do it myself. It is pretty easy. I built a way better system and still spent the same. This Sept it will 2 years old and it is still running strong. Prolly gonna throw in a new vid card soon but thats it.

My friend bought an alienware, and IMO its not worth it. It's really just a name, and I suppose you do get good tech support compared to building your own PC. I personally would not invest in one.
