It teaches discipline, leadership, organization, team work (you may want to check this out...lol), and overall professionalism. I don't expect a lot of people to agree w/me, but I stand firm on this belief. ;)
Good parenting teaches all that. But unfortunetly these days the majority of parents don't do all that for their teenagers. They just let them run loose. So the juvinle deliquents end up going into the military after high school where they belong anyways. But for the normal kids, they should put more thought into joining. You sounds like a spokeperson for the Marines. lol And i'm sorry but there are 1 in a MILLION marines that come out being a professional at anything. Maybe shooting a gun though. ;)

I agree that good parenting should and does teach all of this. I was never in the Marines so I am definitely not a spokesperson for them, that would be Teekahty...lol. And 1 in a million....come on be real here.

If your going to do it get in a ROTC program in College and go in as an officer, alot more bucks.

        I can't say you'll regret it Bro.

As to manditory military service,It is something this country has needed for a long time.It is far from communism SC,it is called duty to country, something that has been forgotten.

A little more than jury duty,or paying taxes, but it should be done.It would not just teach kids to shoot "Guns" or to kill, but disipline, respect and honor.

If you've ever seen what a DI does to someone that trys to "Grab a loudmouth Instructor by the throat",Respect comes quickly;)

If the Marines are your bag,try to get in the airwing.Usually better food and if ya get on a Navy ship,They'll feed ya good;)

Other options if your so inclined and can make the cut,Airforce Parajumpers,Army-Special forces,Rangers,Airborne,Navy Seals.

Good luck and don't believe a damn word a recruiter says, they're worse than used car salesmen;)

Military service can really help some people, or be the kiss of death for others. I've known people who were on the fast track to prison for whom a stint in the military really straightened them out. I've also known people who, once they were in, were unable to function in civilian life without that external source of discipline and direction. And it instills in some people a very rigid mindset.
