Gym in center city Philly..

I think that I am going to be taking a job up in Philly, PA, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with gyms in the Center City area. I am going to be working right on Broad St, 7 blocks S of City Hall.. I would like to workout somewhere close to that location so that I don't have to try and leave the city at 5PM and hit the crazy traffic.

If anyone has some good or bad experiences with gyms in that area I would like to hear about them..

Not many good gyms in philly. Alot of the eagles players used to drive into south jersey to workout.

I live in S. Jersey, and let me tell you, no great shakes for gyms down here. :) Actually, there may be, I just live so far in the styx that I am lucky Hammer Strength can find my gym at all to deliver equiptment..

As far as the 12th St gym.. That is pretty close to the area I am going to be working. Unfortunately, its going to be right around 5pm when I walk into any gym because of my schedule. Is that place going to be a madhouse at that hour?

Depends what kind of gym your looking for, there are quit a few down town.

One of my favorites was the Worlds in Center City open 24 hrs...Its been forever since I've been downtown to train so I don't even know if its still open.

Alot of them went to the LA Fitness on the Black Horse Pike.

Wish that was an option.

That gym is actually not really that far out of the way for my drive home. Unfortunately, if I try to leave the city at 5PM, its a fucking nightmare (which is the reason I was to workout then go home).. Sucks though, if there was no traffic problem I would definately check that gym out..

it's usually a mad house full of men cruising for other men at any hour of the day :)

Puma let me know if you find anything. I will be going to the University of Pennsylvania in september, so i am looking as well. First I have to see how good the campus gym is.

Apparently there is a gym 10-15 mins from the PENN campus, but I am not sure how far that is from center city.

Well.. I visited the 12th St. Gym today..

It was quite interesting.. You were not kidding about the men on men thing, were you? Is that exclusively a gay gym? There were all these gay magazines and newspapers when I walked in.. I could not help but laugh a bit.

It did seem like a nice gym though, and its 1/2 the price of PSC.

well, it's in the "gay" section of town, it's basically the gay gym. it's obviously not "exclusively" gay - but most straight me don't feel comfortable around so many gay men.

my friend (gay) quit working out there b/c he said it was too "cruisey".

hey - if you're secure enough, why not give it a try if it's less money. you in there to work out anyway - not dilly dally.
