  • Digital camera software--recommendations

I just bought a Canon G5 5 megapixel digital camera. The software that came with it sucks, or so I think. I know many people use Photoshop, but there are several different packages. I don't need the professional version. What do you "shutterbugs" suggest for just an amateur who'll use it only occasionally? Thanks BB

I use Paint Shop Pro 5 and am happy with it. It's easy to learn and great for simple picture cropping. My daughter just downloaded PSP version 9 as a free trial for 30 days and it does some crazy stuff. She loves the program and is only 12 so it can't be too difficult to learn.

They have photoshop 2.0 for $20 at Best Buy. It has all the perks of photoshop without the stuff amatuers don't need. I'ts very easy to use and has some amazing stuff on it. Like a tool that fixes red-eye in a click of the mouse.

That sounds like a great beginners program too!

I have 2 problems with photoshop-- 1- System requirements are pentium 3 or 4, I have a 2. Have plenty of ram. 2- Product will support the Canon G1, G2, and G3, but not G5 for RAW images! The full version will support the G5, but not only requires pent. 3 or 4, but also needs windows 2000 and I am still using win 98. Damn. BB

Well the newest Photoshop is KING, but if you're just looking to screw around w/ some pics and get good quality reproductions, I'd use a lesser version of Photoshop or PaintShop

The photoshop version you'll find at Wallmart wil do fine for beginners. Best to start out with that, when you've played with that for awhile then find somone that has a crack to the Photoshop CS. PS CE is what i use and i couldn't use anything else but i'm big into photography.

Canon G5 is a good camera. Learn how to use RAW its great.
