  • Good news...mom is ok!

Found my mom and she's fine, just a little shaken up from the experience. Brought her home with us. Her house was the LEAST damaged. Just got home and am wiped. Spent a few hrs. down there helping the neighbors cover blown out windows, moving trees and rubble out of the road, etc. Stromba was on a roof covering blown out skylights for a while, they're getting more rain tonight. The damage is BAD down there. It's been a surreal experience. Typing is hard, cut my wrist on a window and got some nerve damage, went to ER here in Tampa. Will post more tomorrow with pics.

On a good note, most of the people in her community are snowbirds so they were not home. No one in her park was injured or killed. We were very fortunate.

Thank you all for your wishes and prayers.

Great news, I feared the worst from what I was hearing on the news. Glad she is well.

My brother is an electrical contractor and he left for Florida 2 days ago to help get the power back up. Talked to him last night, he said it's quite a mess down there.

As we drove down there and back it was amazing to see the convoys of ambulances and tree removal trucks...so many good people going down there to help out. Lots of people on the sides of the highway with flats though, nails and screws all over the streets. We got one in our tire but it didn't go flat. We've been so lucky through all of this!

Good news! I live in a coastal community and had a eye out for Charlie. Lived in Charleston after Hugo hit, it takes years to recover from a storm like that.

Well, she was supposed to go to a friends house but we found out that she didn't leave, so when we saw the tv news about Punta Gorda we didn't know where she was and we couldn't get through to the police station so we feared the worst. I had posted that we didn't know what was going on and if anyone heard anything about her development to let us know. Driving down there we saw some of the destruction but fortunately her community suffered little compared to others and actually, her home was the least damaged where she lives, she was outside cleaning off insulation from her car when we got there.
