  • Stimulating the pituary gland

I know this woman who has, i think its called CFS. Where you are always tired and have no energy, its because the pituary gland doesnt produce enough energy. She spends most of her days in bed because of this. She has a degree in phsycoligy(if thats how u spell it) and is really intelligent and attractive. She has had this for 6 months now and the doctors expect it to go on for another 12 months. They tell her all she can do is rest.
Now surely, with such drugs around that we are all familiar with, there must be some kind of drug that stimulates the pituary gland directly to produce energy. She tells me there isnt. But i am not convinced. If her pituary gland is not functioning properly, this must have effect on other hormones in her body. Is this right, do any of you know people with this disorder, and is there any drugs that can help stimulate the piturary gland?:(

that's a shame. i would say that if her current doc isn't an endocronologist, to go find one first. if he/she is an endocronologist, get a second opinion.

if she's got a bad pituitary, it would be a bad idea IMHO to self medicate.

There are loads of drugs to stimulate the pituitary; the hypothalmus of the brain is what stimulates the pituitary in normal function. So what they can either do is give those drugs that the hypothalamus releases to activate the pituitary, or just replace the hormones that the pituitary releases (i.e. FSH, LH, TSH, ACTH and Prolactin). I am presuming your friend has problems with the hormones the pituitary releases to control thyroid and adrenal cortex function (TSH and ACTH respectively). Does she also have infertility? If she does its most likely a general pituitary problem (called hypopituitarism). The thyroid problem and the adrenal problem should be able to fix with hydrocortisone therapy and T4. Has she had any formal tests for this? If not that that would be the first line of action rather than educated guessing like I am trying to do

has anyone found the pituitary gland is responsible? This is a best guess for M.D.s . I am willing to bet she has adrenal problems from stress that has created the issue. Once depleted enough for long enough the mysterious CFS appears.

The only cure they have is stay low because it takes a long time for the system (adrenals) to resurect itself. But there are many problems that can stop or inhibit this from happening once you have it. While she may have gotten it from too much stress going on in life and/or excercise stressing her out. Often this along with a long time stressor such as food allergies (which MANY HAVE but the body can with stand in normal circumstances) creates CFS. Even a low level food allergy stressor itself can eat up any progress her body may have been able to make. Inflammation can be a issue. A real problem can be created when your body has a reaction (allergy) to B vitamins as they help feed your/her adrenals as another example. If this is the problem her Endocronologist has not a clue or desire to treat her. It is outside their area of expertise.

All you need to prove this initially is a blood pressure monitor..preferably battery operated that you strap to her wrist.

        http://www.healthchecksystems.com/bpwrist.htm

You can buy one at your local pharmacy.

Have her lay down for at least 5 minutes then take her reading with her arm lying next to her. Do this before eating. As soon as you finish remember the SYSTOLIC pressure number. Have her stand up and retake the pressure with the monitor at heart level and see if the systolic drops. If it does you have a case of adrenal fatigue.

If so it can probably be fixed fairly quickly.

Let me know if this is the problem and I will tell you what I think will fix it.

It sounds like Chronic Fatigue or Epstien/Barr, I am not a expert but know some people with this. Does she have "good" and "bad" days? Some days you would never know anything is wrong with these people. I wish your friend luck.

my pop has that. All the docs will give him is DHEA. Sometimes he feels alright, but most of the time he is just worn out. Very strange disease. I couldn't imagine having it.
