LA PORTE, Texas -- A La Porte plant had a gas leak Wednesday afternoon, officials told Local 2.
The Air Gases facility, located on the property of Air Products at 10292 Strang, said gas from a cylinder escaped at about 1:40 p.m. It's not yet clear if it was hydrogen chloride or hydrogen fluoride gas.
A shelter-in-place order was not issued for area residents.
Officials believe the gas was contained to the plant. Plant personnel were evacuated to a safe area at the facility, according to authorities. Several workers were treated for minimal exposure to the gas, but no injuries were reported.
Hazardous materials units were sent to the scene. The leak is under investigation.
Strang Road around the plant was closed to traffic.
Air Gas is the nation's largest distributor of industrial, specialty and medical gases, such as oxygen and nitrous oxide, according to company officials.
