  • The 40 Richest Americans Under 40 Yrs Old.

Ho hum. So Michael Dell, chairman and founder of Dell Computer is No. 1--again--on Fortune's annual "40 Richest Under 40" list. But not for long! Mr. Dell is 39. No matter how much money he makes this year, he's outta here next year so for the first time since the list was created in 1999, there will be a new face in the lead.

The much-watched list is a compendium of the best and the brightest. They are all young, fabulously wealthy, and either enormously brainy, savvy, or talented (or all three). Fully one-third of those on the list are just like Michael Dell; they've been on it since it originated. Success breeds more success.

Still, there is rich and then there is stinking rich. The difference in the personal fortune of No. 1 and No. 40 is immense. Dell's wealth is pegged at a staggering $17.95 billion. No. 40, basketball player Kevin Garnett of the Minnesota Timberwolves, has a mere $106 million bank account.

There are some newcomers to this list, notably mogulettes Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who came into their considerable TV and movie fortune on their recent 18th birthday, along with Jennifer Lopez, Jay-Z, and Jeff Gordon. Squeezing in at No. 38 is first-timer Britney Spears.

I like how at #14 Tiger Woods just says "Golfer" and being surounded by CEO's, Chaimen, Founders and such. Also Britney Spears just says "Entertainer" :D

Notice that most of these people used their brains instead of brawn to become rich. IMHO, they earned all they have. The others were just lucky to be born with great physical attributes. BB

Because none of them have any brawn so they had to revert to brains. LOL. JayZ, P Diddy, and spears owe a lot of there success to other people. They didn't do it on there own.

He spends all his money on bling and cars. Watch MTV's cribs and you'll know why most high paid stars don't have anything in the bank.

What's even more amazing is that ebay and google are not even that old. Shows that great ideas for the net are still out there that can be profitable.

Cuban is over 40. A-rod gets his over a 10 year period. Not all at once.
