our area only offers a few channels in HD.. I have been wanting to upgrade.... but i would have to upgrade to digital first for an extra 15$ then upgrade to HD for 5$ more. As it stands now, its not really worth it for 3 HD channels.

Basically, interlace samples an image twice first the odd lines, then the even lines, which obviously takes time and can possibly cause overlap in the image frames. Progressive does it algorithmically all at once.

Thanks, the facts above that you posted helped me understand a few things. My TV supports both 780p and 1080i and both are super clear. Much clearer then anything that I have used. But watching football last night it seemed like the 1080i was just a tad clearer. From what you posted above I gather that 1080i is clearer when it comes to still things but 780p does a better job with moving things. I will have to look closely and see if I can really tell a difference. Also my TV has both progressive scan and interlacing or whatever it is. I have it set on progressive scan, that is better correct?

Yes progressive is the better standard. And like you said, it does become difficult to tell the difference, but if you played video games on a 720p vs 1080i, you would be able to tell the difference...again...you would have to pay attention. I'm very critical of these things, as I'm sure you are. Which is why I went out of my way to show you some of your info was a bit off (not to be a dick). Thanks to a tv technician fuck up, I have a 57' HDTV widescreen w/true 720p capability so I can use it as my pc monitor. That is another way you would easily tell the difference in quality and capability.

No problem at all, this is how you learn. Now I know more about my TV and box then I did before. I was wondering what the little computer jack in the back of my TV was for. Now I know it can be used as a computer monitor aswell. Im going to set my box to 720p and let you know. Give me a sec because im in the process of taking my damn Directv dish off my deck. Hurt my hand twice already. lol.

However, you may have to change the settings according to movies and/or video game standard formats...or the tv may automatically detect it (it should).

Computer jack? You mean an RJ45 plug (ethernet style/big phone plug style jack)? If so, I don't know what that is for. I have mine connected my ATI Vid card DVI output (w/an adapter http://www.trianglecables.com/dvi-hdtv200.html ) to give me component out. You can use S-video, but component looks much better.

No it has like a little jack in the back that looks like something you would plug a computer printer into?

I set it to 720p and im watching a nature show. Looks the same as 1080i both super clear. I will have to wait until something more fast moving comes on to see.
