  • Tuesday Baseball Playoffs Game 1: RedSox @ Yankees

I really want the RedSox to win this series. I am not a Yankee fan at all.

Here are some stats I came up with while figuring which way I am gonna bet the game:

-The Projected 9 starters for the BoSox are batting .187 (62 for 331) lifetime versus Mike Mussina.

-The Projected 9 starters for the Yankees are batting .250 (42 for 168) lifetime versus Curt Schilling.

-The Yankees own the Sox and have a much more talent in their lineup.

-David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez are a combined 17 for 103 versus Mussina. When these two guys don't hit, who the hell does? Myabe Varitek...oh wait, he is 4 for 44 lifetime versus the Moose. There go a bunch of runs.

    -Yankees at +135? at home?

-Mussina has an ERA of 3.50 versus the Sox this season and Schilling has an ERA of 4.82 versus the Yankees this year.

-Schilling ran his mouth and you can bet the Bronx Bombers will make him pay and if they don't, their fans probably will. It's not a good idea to talk about shutting up 50,000 screaming Yankees fans. Yankees fans are probably the most obnoxious besides maybe Philly fans (Hey, they don't throw car batteries at you or boo the Easter Bunny or cheer wildly when Michael Irvin's career is coming to an end).

    -Something called "The Curse"

-Mussina has excellent career numbers vs. Boston going 17-12 w/ a 3.12 ERA and 2 shutouts while Schilling is 3-2 w/ a 4.72 ERA vs. the Yankees. Mussina is also 8-2 @ home this season with a 3.94 ERA. Add Rivera to the mix (I know he might be tired, but at least he'll be at the game) and you also have the best closer in this game.

-The Yankees are +135 @ home? I could understand this line if anyone other than Mussina was on the mound. Mussina was tough down the stretch and I expect him to pitch good tonight. Sure Schilling is lights out in the post season, but he was only -160 vs. Washburn in the ALDS. Now, he's -145 to -150 against Mussina in Yankees stadium?

I could continue why I think the value is with the Yankees, but the bottom line is they have more value tonight. Just look at the game this way, I want to make a dime on the game,

    I could:
    A) Bet (Approx) $1,500 for $1,000 on Boston
    B) Bet (Approx) $750 for $1,000 on New York

Also remember Option B includes a pumped up crowd and a team that has won 26 World Series titles since Boston won in 1918.

yes but one must remember that a line isnt placed on who they think will win, but where will draw 50% of the action on each side.
