  • irritablility and lethargy

Just a quick question for youse guys.

The past souple of days I have been not my usual upbeat self (kinda grumpy) and I have been feeling tired throughout the entire day. I've been getting around 7-8 hours of sleep per night and eating about 6-7 clean meals and training like a mofo. I realized that in the past two days I have hardly had any carbs in my diet except for breakfast oatmeal. Could this be causing me to bottom out lately?

could be your lack of carbs. Despite all the negative dribble against carbs, they provide the energy for your muscles to work and are needed for your short term endurance.

Absolutely. I remember years ago when I did Atkins and was in ketosis, I was exhausted, irritable, and couldn't concentrate well at all.

I find I do well on 80-100 carbs a day, lower than that and I start to feel weird.

I had some carbs today not much but a little and I feel a little better. I had a decent workout, I threw up, and what not. I made sure to cook some rice up tonight for the rest of the week. Damn I hate being lazy

The brain needs at 150 grams of carbohydrates to function normally (which means that is what it burns during its metabolic processes). I don't know how some of you guys get by with less than that.

Interesting ... is that the same for everyone, regardless of weight, age, bf%, etc?

If you are active you need a good amount of carbohydrates to sustain your energy levels and for proper brain function. A very low carb diet should only be done by those people who are very overweight with little activity levels (couch potatos) or people in their last few weeks before a contest.

One of the guys at work cycles on and off of Atkins. I'm gonna pay attention to his diet and his work performance, we notice him making some really stupid mistakes at times and I wouldn't be surprised if it's diet related. He's a very bright guy.
