  • Why is it people want the government...

To stay out of their private lives and at the same time expect them to provide them with the security that this great nation provides? I know I am opening a can of worms here but I just don't understand how people can say..."it's my business who I marry" or " it's my business what drugs I do" but while I am marrying him or her or shooting this or that I want you to provide me protection from outside invasions!

I know that change is good but not always! Why can't people say..."hey you know what. I can't do anything and everything I want, but you know what...I don't have 100,000 foreigners bombing my house trying to take over my country."

No one is totally free to do whatever they want and they never will but I will live by their rules as long as they provide me with the security that they have! I know some people don't feel safe after 9/11 but those people attacked us with our own weapons! I for one feel better that the war is taking place somewhere else and not here!

Sorry if this upsets some people but I just had to rant! If you think less of me now then so be it...after all it is your right!

I agree that we live in a society of rules and laws but I am not prepared to allow a fear-mongering government to dupe me into giving up my basic freedoms. I would warn anyone against beleiving the powers that be when they try to sell you on the idea that they can protect from the maniacs of this world (i assume you are mostly talking about terrorism). The clown that that this country just re-elected as our leader has stirred up a hornets nest that he can never hope to contain and all for making a buck...and unfortunately I have a feeling he has just begun(I can't wait to see the show now that he doesn't have to worry about getting re-elected). I am not saying the our other choice was the answer, IMO we are pretty much screwed either way, but we are now officially on the fast-track. I wish people would try to read into the true motivations of people like Bush. Maybe it's just me but it seems as though he doesn't ever try to hide them. How can that many people buy into his lies?

I will say this and that will be it. Govt. had three jobs. To provide a police force to protect civilians rights in our homeland. To provide an armed force to protect from foreign invasion and a judicial branch to sort out the legalities of the other two. Other than that govt has no business being invoved in building road, providing jobs, meddling in the ecomony, social secuirty, welfare, medicine or anything else.

The fact that the war is somewhere else now means nothing. They could float a derilict boat with a dirty nuke on it and take out san fransisco or NYC. There is nothing this country can do to protect us from terrorist threats. We would basically end up like israel which prides itself on security and shit still happens there and they live in a police state. The only way to stop the terrorist threat is to stop meddling in other countries business.

This is a crock of shit. Government is here to serve and protect it's people, not meddle in their social lives. As long as no one is getting hurt or any laws are not being broken, then people should be left alone to live and do as they please.

Article 1 Section 8 and Article 2 Sections 2-4 of the US Constitution lists out what the legislative and excutive branches are supposed to be doing. Nowhere is on the list does intrusion into people's private lives occur, regardless of how acceptable or unacceptable the majority of people may find their lifestyles to be.

Yes Bush has gained so much from the war. He is stuffing his pockets full of money. I hate this stupid anti bush argument. That the war is for money for oil. Where is he putting all this money and oil that we are supposedly stealing from Iraq? Just rhetoric from people that don't like Bush. Attack him on his ideas and actions but leave that crap out. peace.

Also if you're doing something wrong that you're worried about the gov't looking at your library records and bank records, then you probably deserve it. For those that have nothing to hide you won't even be a blip on their radar. Yep the government knows I look at anabolic websites and check out books about weight lifting. I must be number one on their lists. Give me a break.

there is nothing temporary about terrorism....we are in it for the long hall and need to do what we can to minimalize it as much as possible. Everyday John Smith and Joe Schmoe has nothing to worry about. those planning on attacking us, should be worried.
