He was not part of a terrorist cell. He was the peaceful palistenian president for many years fighting to keep the terrorists from taking Isrial from being a free state.

In the Dutch newspaper it said that Arafat had unlocked a chain of violence with bombs, kidnapping, hijackings, taking Israelic athletes for hostage from 1958 to the 70s.

You are obviously mis-informed. Please do your research before demonstrating your lack of intelligence. Granted, Arafat has done many things, some positive and some negative, BUT, the Israeli government has not been the patron Saint either. Do the research, the war over this portion of land has been waged for thousands of years. Did you know that in 1948, the name of this land was changed from Palestine to Israel (United Nation). Understand the culture and how things are done in this geographical area before calling someone a terroist. Democracy is different in other parts of the world. Our system is not perfect, it's just what we use (which is based on an older system).

to say he was not a terrorist is laughable......

you brought up the subject of educating oneself....perhaps that should be redirected....a little research can go a long way in seeing where the Palestinians came from.

Actually, Arafat was directly linked to the massacre of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics and the 1973 assasinations of US Ambassador Cleo Noel, US Deputy Chief of Mission George C. Moore and Belgian diplomat Guy Eid in Sudan.

The PLO was started as a terrorist organization whose charter called for the complete anilation of the state of Israel. I remember Arafat on TV 20 yrs ago calling for the destruction of Israel by any means necessary. Arafat has always been a terrorist and is directly responsible for an enormous number of terrorist attacks on the CIVILIANS of Israel. He practically INVENTED the suicide bomber. Hell, Chamas was started as an off-shoot of the PLO. Are you going to claim they are not terrorists either?

Arafat was a terrorist by any reasonable definition and the world (and the palistinians) are better off without him. May he burn in hell.

he has my respect -- fought for his beliefs --

the palistinians -[sp] deserve there own place to call home aswell--
Israel keeps encroaching on them --
look up sharon's history -- he is nothing but a butcher/terrorist himself

Show me where Sharon has advocated the complete and utter destruction of the palistinian people. Show me where he has advocated violence of any kind against innocent palistinian civilians with no contacts to terror. Sharon was willing to work on the "roadmap to peace" which would give the palistinians there own state. It was the palistinians and Arafat who de-railed that process. It was Arafat himself who rejected the Oslo Accords which pretty much gave the palistinians everything they wanted including half of Jeruselem. Arafat just flat turned it down and walked out; no negotiation at all. Arafat could not allow peace between the palistinians and Israel because the conflict defined him. Without it, he was nobody. Hopefully, now that he is out of the way, a peacefull solution may be possible.

I am not claiming Sharon is an angel but he is not a terrorist either. I think he has been a horrible prime minister and has precipitated a lot of violence due to the hatred the palistinian people have for him. That still doesn't make him a terrorist.

The effectiveness of destroying the homes of suicide bombers is clearly debateable and civilians (parents and relatives of suicide bombers) are certainly affected but it is a direct response to someone blowing themselves up in a crowded market place. I am sure Israel hoped the threat of having one's family's home destroyed would deter would be suicide bombers. I am not sure it has worked out that way though.

I'm definitely with Spidey on this one....the only way Israel could appease Arrafat is it ceased to exist....he was a terrorist period.
