  • A slap in the face

Just read where Meyer is taking the Florida job.

Do you think Notre Dame feels like they just got slapped in the face? Think they might be just alittle pissed at the moment? They fired Willingham probably thinking Meyer was a lock.

Wonder if Meyer didn't take that job because of the way Notre Dame fired Willingham early in his contract to get to him. Would you wanna be the reason another coach got pushed out early? Then there is the expectation and pressure of winning and right away. Sure, that is anywhere you go but more in the spotlight here.

I think I could handle living in Florida year around.

2 reasons why no one wants to the job:

    1. No such thing as job security.
    2. Cant recruit due to high academic standards. Kids rather go to FSU, Miami, Tenn. and party year around and play football instead of studying and playing football.

I agree. In sports it is always what have you done for me lately.

You do have to give Notre Dame some credit. They do play a pretty tough schedule and like you said the high academic standards they have in place deters a lot of players. Can't expect to compete year in and year out without getting high caliber players on the team and playing that tough of schedule.

If they lowered their standards just a bit, it might be a more attractive job.

exactly Yellow, ND always has problems lately finding a great coach because of this.

While I agree it would, I hope they do not. That takes away from the prestige of ND. Watching Rudy makes me want to go to ND....

I hope they do not either.

Yea, everytime that damn movie comes on I watch it. It is a prestigous college and lowering standards would make it lose some of it's mystique.

So what is the solution to the football program then? A good coach? Holtz, Davies, and Willingham were all good coaches, wouldn't ya say. So how do they recruit the top athletes? ND football isn't quite looked upon as the powerhouse they once were.

Well people think ND recruits on prestige alone, which isnt exactly true....

ND goes to a bowl every year. They have endless bowl ties, regardless of record (given they qualify). The money they have coming into that program is insane, their facilities, etc. are untouchable.

They'll get back to where they need to be.... if they give a coach the chance to prove himself.... every team has a down year or 2, FSU, Miami, Fla, USC, etc. No one goes undefeated and to a big bowl every year...

                Think about this.

Meyer obviously took the UF job because he thought he'd have a better chance of winning at UF than at ND, even though at UF Meyer will face Fulmer, Richt, Spurrier, and Saban every year. That's a huge statement on ND program.

I like what the guy said on ESPN....

"Florida knows who they are and theyre potential, ND does no, theyre expectations far exceed their talent"
