Not all professors are like that, but the ones that are can drop dead as far as I'm concerned. Its all very well weeding out slackers, but not people that are trying hard but still not making the grade.

The most important thing your first semester will teach you is that you need to be better prepared for finals in the future. This means taking a little extra time at the end of every week to make condensed study notes of the important concepts you've covered during the past seven days. If you do this all semester long, it does two things: One, it gives you far more efficient notes to study, meaning that the time you spend reading before finals will be maximized. Two, reading over all of your notes and then writing out the condensed version will cause you to read over the material another time, reinforcing the concepts discussed in lectures in your mind. And, if you're the kind of person who might be inclined to study over the sum of your condensed notes during lulls in the semester, you will find that you won't have to kill yourself studying night and day right before finals.

Good luck on that last final, and give some thought to how you can improve your approach to studying next semester. It's all about organization and time management...just like nearly everything else in life.
