Screw all the little companies. I am not for big business, but I have to say that I have been pleased with Verizon. Any time I have a problem, I just drive to the store and they fix it for me right away. Not only that, but I get more coverage areas than any of my friends with Cingluar, alltel and Nextel all combined.

I just read the article and it said you can expect prices to drop and coverage to increase. :)

I dunno it's close... I have friends w/ all those companies and they lose service far more times than i do. I rarely ever don't have service. That's here in the south though. For my purposes, which is about a 5 state area, verizon is king

 I'll have to check them out when my contract is up with Alltel!

Here's today's lesson on wireless phone providers, read it if you wish:

It's hard to say what company is best. Certain states will have better coverage with certain companies.

Companies like Alltel, and Airtouch Cellular are actually just Verizon, they're owned by them. The company with the most cell phone towers nationwide is also verizon. Up until the merger between At&t/Cingular, verizon had the largest customer base. At&t now has a few million more, however Verizon is growing about 5 times as fast at At&t/Cingular; so that may not last. GSM companies such as At&t/Cingular have advantages like having phones that use sim-cards. You can literally just buy any sim-card GSM phone off of ebay, and just swap sim-cards with your current phone. However At&t/Cingular have some bad policies that tend to push customers over to Verizon. For instance if you have an At&t account, and you would like to get more minutes each month, well instead of them just switching you to a higher minute plan, they will require you to re-sign your contract for another two-years, unless you get lucky.

Other than some local companies in my area, Sprint is the worst nationwide provider I've dealt with. I sell Sprint phones for a living, and it's not easy. Sprint has by far the worst customer service I've seen, and even worse policies than At&t/Cingular. Not only with they make you resign a contract for any changes you wish to do, they also will charge you for all your roaming charges if you spend more than 50% of your minutes off their main network, and you will have no idea when you're on theirs or someone elses. You could rack up a $500 bill in a month, and have no idea why. Sprint's nationwide coverage is basically them leasing cell phone towers from many other providers. Their nationwide coverage is 80% verizon. And like I said, if you're not in their area 50% of the time, you'll be paying for all your roaming and long distance (and they claim both are free in the brochures). And lastly, Sprint treats new customers better than any customer they've had for years. If you need to get a new phone from sprint, you will be paying anywhere from $150-200 more upfront than a new customer would be. Then sprint will reimburse you for the $150-200 later in the mail (about 2 months later). If you're a sprint customer looking for a new phone, have fun paying $200-400 for a new phone that others may get for free.

Well just thought I would enlighten some of you.
