  • Just a thought...

If people can spare just an hour during this holiday season, they can make a small contribution for the troops from their own region by making a simple phone call to their local military base and ask the public information officer who (school kids, family support groups, etc.,) might be sending small gift boxes of goodies and basic necessities to their personnel and donate money, items, or time to that effort. You'll feel a real measure of gratification and that you have actually helped make someone feel special, even though they're so far from home.

Also, if you can afford it, it would be nice to purchase a new toy, clothes (child and/or adult) or some food for your local food pantry. Such places often rely solely on donations from local citizens. There are most likely disadvantaged families right in your own area that could use your help. Years ago, I was once on the receiving end after my employer bankrupted just prior to the holiday season (and before unemployment could kick in for me). I was very grateful for their unselfish (and volunteer) efforts. Now I make a point to donate and help others get back on their feet. It can make a huge difference in people's lives. It is also likely that they will then contribute to the organization that helped them out in such a time of need when they get back on their feet.

:agree: Our office always adopts a needy family during Christmas and we collect food, clothes and toys for them! Nothing makes you feel better than helping someone that REALLY needs it!
