  • College Football: Independence Bowl

    Bowl Record 5-5

Teams: Miami Ohio vs Iowa St.

    Line:Iowa St -1.5 O/U 51

Not a very strong play for me. Can’t really get a good read on either team. ISU is probably the 7th best team in the Big 12 this year…and coming from the Big 12 North you just can’t really get a feel for this team.

While the ISU offense is horrible the defense had been very good this year. Ranked 33rd overall in defense, and more importantly 17th against the pass against a pretty good schedule. Miami likes to throw the ball so this is definitley a good match-up for ISU.

It also seems this squad has gotten better as the season has gone on. Majority of ISU top skill positions were either sophmores or freshman and are gelling at the right time. They closed the season winning 4 of its last 5 and should have beat Mizzu if they wouldn’t have missed a 24 yard FG.

I love playing against teams that have lost their head coach or top assistant. This is exactly the case as Miami loses their head coach to Indiana. The main thing that sticks out to me is looking at the wins and losses of Miami. The only quality win they have is against Toledo earlier in the year 23-16 (even though Toledo payed them back with a loss in the MAC title game). Every other win they have they were double digit faves against the weaker teams in the MAC.

They have 4 losses. Losing to Marshall by 9, Cincy by 20 who beat Marshall rather easily, Michigan by 33 points, and Toledo in the MAC title by 8.

Even with the Big 12 not being as good as years past I still gotta think ISU has played a much tougher schedule then Miami and has a lot more quality wins then Miami.

    My Play: Iowa St -1.5
