  • Canada vs. Russia for the gold

Anyone who knew their hockey predicted it, and now it's official: Canada vs. Russia in the gold medal game at the World Junior Hockey Championships.

I watched the Russians soundly beat Team USA today....and their forwards looked impressive storming around in the offensive zone. I don't think they'll find such a 'free-wheeling' atmosphere in the Canadian end: all of Team Canada's defensemen are over 200 pounds, and 4 of the 6 are 220+ (Cam Barker, who is out of the lineup due to illness, was 220lbs as well). Average weight of a Canadian blueliner: 218.4 pounds

Team USA only has two defensemen that weigh at least 200lbs, and the average weight of a Team USA blueliner is only 192 pounds. Whoever was responsible for selecting the players for Team USA should be taken off the committee before next year. I know that there have to be some bigger skilled defensemen than that in the American system.
