actually if you look at it from a purely business perspective, NASCAR is the fastest growing and most profitable sport. why else do you think a channel like NBC would be running NASCAR on weekends? advertisers pay permium dollar during those commercial spots for the air time... NASCAR is all about corporate sponsorship, though i'm not a fan, there are A LOT of NASCAR fans around. so why not??

it's coming out of the backwoods and growing into the most profitable spectator sport there is.

Most women I know (that don't already follow traditional 'male' sports) enjoy a sport once they've had the rules explained, and follow it for a few games.
Please explain what a REAL sport is in hitmansb's world...In mine it means anything that is done that can be classified as physical and competitive such as bowling, bodybuilding, volleyball, soccer, etc. Not just footbal, basketball, or baseball and bodybuilding as well. I know alot of people that just don't have any interest in tradtional sports.

from a purely media and advertising perspective, i think NASCAR is very interesting.... the fact that the "sport" is all corporate sponsorship... the "winston" cup, the "pepsi 500" - it's a little peep into the new era of sports... as you see more stadiums come up with corporate lables, and more teams get corporate sponsorships.... all sports are headed in the same direction.

you sit and wonder if sport for the sake of competiton gets kinda lost in this...

i think that's why lately - the AAA baseball games have been so well attended around the nation - b/c there's more "sport" involved in these games now then in the majors... at least that's what i think...

I wouldn't mind a NASCAR forum either. Got to have somewhere to get pissed about Gordon's bad luck

REAL popular sport...I should say. The ones that most people watch: Football, Basketball, Hockey, Baseball, Boxing, MMA, ect.
Volleyball is a heckuva sport (especially beach), but not that many people watch/participate.

Bodybuilding would be a sport in 'our' board community for sure...it's all relative I guess. But golf I don't consider a sport so much as a (highly)skilled game. Ditto for bowling. And while soccer is certainly a sport....I just hate it.

Sana...I have a little bro that plays hockey....and I see more guts and determination out there at tryouts than I ever see during the regular season in the NHL. If you have amateur sports in your area, or minor leagues, definately support them. Everyone there is playing their hardest because they are trying to make it....nothing has been handed to them.

Agreed. That is also why College Football is also more exciting than NFL.

Oh I can see your point, but this is your opinion...there may be people who visit the board that may want to discuss sports that they enjoy or excell in. For me personally, I feel it is a waste of time to watch spots on TV...I would much rather be playing them. As for your comments on bowling and golf not requiring much skill...I beg to differ to the point of saying they require much more skill and precision than the formentioned traditional sports.

ooops, my mistake brotha...my point is that if a board like this is going to be successful, it has to be well rounded and made to encourage members who's interests run the gamut. I love bowling and I've become fairly skilled at it... but I don't think its fair to knock people just because they may not look athletic playing a sport that they have excelled in...some sports obviously don't require you to look like superman to be able to get good in. Open your mind, brotha...peace!!! ;)
