I have had my gym for years, My personal recommendations would be a lifting cage, a nice bench, a good universal and a nice set of adjustable dumbbells like power blocks and of coarse what ever you use for cardio. personally I'm a bike guy

I just got done doing the same thing. Here is what I went with and I'm really happy. I don't feel like I'm cheating any body parts by not having the right equipment.

I went with Keys Fitness Power System stuff cause I got a good deal on it and it all has a lifetime warranty. I researched home gym equipment options a ton before I bought anything so if you have any questions, I'd be glad to help.

That's funny. Mine is almost exactly 500sq feet too. Its 13x40 (520sq ft) I got 4x6rectangles that are at least an inch thick for $35 a piece. Holy crap, I never realized I spent that much on the flooring!! You're right that's getting close to $1000 bucks.

so, what did you get for the gym? Are you gonna do mirrors eventually? You must have an equally understanding wife!!

Very nice! Sounds like you'll be good to go. I s'pose you don't need indoor cardio equipment living in San Jose-you can do it all outside. You'll love working out in your own place-convenient and you can play your own music.
