Another tip for the military that have never been to Hawaii. You can rent cottages 3 and 4 bedrooms right on the beach. So you can get and idea of the cost, the going rate back in 94 was $44 a night for a 3 bdrm. Really nice place. So make sure you check out the Waianea Rec Center. You can even put your visiting family or friends up in them for the same price. It's well worth it. Also the Hale Koa military hotel is in Waikiki directly on the beach. Very nice. Prices were about $60 to $100 cheaper than the civilian hotels. A room with 2 double beds was $80 a night. Within walking distance of just about everything. Also the gyms on Hickham AFB and Barbers Point Naval Air station are first class. Make sure you check them out. Man I wish I was going back.

Take me with you, I'm a cheap date and I'll be good. I promise!
Hey thanks for the tip I appreciate it Otter! We will definately visit before we actually move there to see what the economy is like and look for real estate. We will know very soon what its gonna be--hawaii or WA- both places are very cool and would definately be a change from fl.

Yeah I miss the gyms too, the NAVY has AWESOME gyms, there is not a base here in south florida for us to go to or we would definately be working out there.

You' re very welcome. Hawaii is rather expensive, but for the military you use to get that little extra kick from COLA. Not sure what it's called now a days. (I've been retired now for 8 years) But I was never strapped for cash while there.
