  • Oppinions please for anyone in the food buisness.

I just grilled up a burger and I was eating it, a thought came to mind. I said to myself, this thing is damn good. It had fried onions, fried bell peppers, a little blue cheese dressing and some hot sauce. Dosent sound all that great but if you tried it you would be shocked at how good it is. Anyway, I make burgers and things like that all the time for myself and I love to do it.

What do you guys think of the idea of opening up a small road side burger/ hot dog/ BBQ place? Considering that I love to cook, and I have the time to do it.

Also wondering how much money and such it takes to open up something like that. It wouldnt be big, it would be about the size of your average garage. What kind of innsurace is needed? What kind of permits would I need? And who would I contact about buying good quility meats and rolls in bulk?

    Thanks guys.

It'd be the next Mel's Diner.

The only thing is you'd be best off puting it in a busy section of town. It seems that small places don't survive in non highly populated areas.

Nah he wouldn't have to be there all the time if he gets a competent manager to run the place.

Well you can get loans for that kind of thing. Plus if its your own buisness, you dont mind being there all the time. I would open it at like 11:30am. I could train in the morning and get all my meals in during the day.

It's a good idea...but those places are hit or miss. My old man owned a small pizza place when I was younger. The first couple years he make no profit (he actually lost money) and we almost lost our house later on because another place open down the street. He eventually just got out of it. It's all about finding the right spot. On the other hand, my uncle opened a place 30 years ago and now he owns 3 houses. So hey it can go either way... if you can afford it go for it.
