  • My computer doesnt play sounds

Everytime i go into the media player to jam out or see some clips. Even my sisters noticed too. The media player goes all crazy on us. Skipping songs here and there.

I went to control panels and went to sound. The volume is super low, i tried adjusting it but cant. The thing is locked or something. Everything else works fine. A screem popped out saying somehthing about "SOUND CARD". I went to Compaq trouble shooter and coldnt fix it. I remember seeing a thread on a sound card once.

good then you know what to "search" for.;)
if it only does that with windows media player then you might be able to reinstall it.

Go to device manager and see if your sound card is functioning properly. You may have a driver issue or it may be disabled. That's the first place I would start.

Sounds like a corrupted driver.... uninstall, reinstall and go to manufacturers website and download latest driver.

these guys are right, sounds like a driver issue..If not it could be a defective sound card...Make sure you have the correct driver downloaded for your soundcard before removing anything though.

i tired everything guys. Ive downloaded the drivers and also uninstalled the ones it had before and added new ones but nothing. It says to install drivers, whick i went to compaq to install them. The computer gots them but wont work still.

I just need to restore this computer in all. Been having too much problems with it recently.

Could it also be that i uninstalled the Norton Antivirus and downloaded another one. My anti virus wasnt updated. Didnt have cash so i downloaded one from download.com. Another thing that i think it was my sisters always chatting in msn messenger all the time, recieving dowloads from her frineds. Could this be a problem.

When i restore it again, im gonna try to get a new memory chip 512mb.

Does it only happen with windows media Player? or have you tried the sound in other applications like Winamp or Quicktime?

And when you play it with Windows Media player what exactly does it do?
