  • Food is making me broke!

It seems no matter the amout of money I make I will always find a way to spend more. Now it's on food! I spend $400 to $500 on groceries alone from Wal-Mart. That's the cheapest place for me to buy my food where I live.

On top of all that I buy protein shakes everyday on my way to the gym for the convience. Not to metion the 10lb bucket of protein powder a month.

This is getting crazy. I eat all day long. I'm hungry as shit right now posting this and I just ate like an hour ago. :(

Please tell me I'm not the only one.

I'm feeling your pain man. I've eaten four times today and I was just checking the clock to see if I could go eat again.

I spend about $400/mo on real food and then buy all my supplements in addition to that from online sources. I guess it's the price I have to pay to look this damn good! :D

I hear a couple dollar monster burger from Hardees fills you up pretty good though!

I think most people who eat correctly suffer throught this too. I too, am hungry all the time. But when it seems worse, is RIGHT after I eat!! I can have my last protein bar at 3:30-4:00pm, and by the time I get home and start my workout about 5:30, I could eat a mule's pecker fried in tar. But by 7-7:30, depending on what body parts I have worked, I'm not very hungry at all, just a bit woosy from low blood sugar. Then, after I eat dinner, I'm hungry even before I put the dishes away. Weird. BB

Yep, they sure do. And if there's no Costco in your area, there's always Sam's Club.

You beat me to it. Wal-Mart owns Sam's club too. It is a whole sale place and if you have anything like it near you, join! You can buy alot of bulk stuff, anything you can find in a grocery store you will find in these places. When I am trying to bulk, I would go and buy huge tubs of cottage cheese and several lbs of cheese, nuts, frozen foods...

Yeah, they just opened a Costco near me, so now I can get all my chicken, tuna, cottage cheese there. I'm not sure how much I'll save. Have you guys (that have Costco's) found that they have decent red meat too--and if so what kind of red meat do you buy there? I've been considering buying some kind of lean cut of beef and grinding it for lean burger.

If you guys post your weekly grocery bill here, we may be able to offer suggestions on less expensive replacements that are just as good.

Do you have a grocery store in your area that has a bulk food section (that is a section where the stuff is in big bins and you scoop it into plastic bag). As a rule of thumb, I try to buy as many things as I can from the bulk food section - this includes rice, flour, pasta, oatmeal, etc. etc. Avoid buying boxed food as much as possible - you will save that way.

I don't know which cut it was, but I was getting a pretty lean steak there, then when I got home I trimmed it around the edges (that was the only vissible fatty area) and ground it up for burgers and meatloaf. Tasted much better than the meat I was getting at the butcher and much leaner than anything they did for me.

I'm a huge fan of Costco/Sam's club. Their chicken tenders are considerably less expensive than in the supermarket and I have a big chest freezer in the garage so when I go shopping I stock up buying 6-10 packages at a time. Milk is 50 cents a gallon cheaper, so I get that in bulk and freeze it too. Costco has bags of 6 peppers (big ones and I stuff em with ground turkey) 2 red, 2 yellow, 2 orange for $6. They have a big container of mixed greens for salad for about $4. Disposable goods (cups, plates, etc.) are much cheaper there and so is Splenda.
