Happens all the time. A friend of mine competed in a half marathon last year where some guy dropped dead from drinking too much water. Electrolyte imbalances are very dangerous.

That's why it's better to drink Gatorade when you're trying to re-hydrate...the added electrolytes make it vastly superior to water.

I would have to go with Powerade rather then Gatorade. Powerade has half the sodium and has b-vitamins aswell. But I do agree on your point though.
Gosh! how much water would be toxic?

Well thats how much to kill you, but how much to actually be a concern?

However, even in the absence of other provocations, excessive drinking alone can result in hyponatremia, as has occurred in people who have ingested large volumes of fluid (e.g., 3 liters—more than 3 quarts—of water in an hour) trying to produce a dilute urine to escape detection of banned drugs during drug tests (Zehlinger et al., 1996; Gardner, 2002b).

These figures are probably not completely relevant to those with larger body mass (i.e. bodybuilders), but the cautions are still worth listening to. While there are several theories and hypothesis on this, one particular concern deals with NSAID's (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), such as aspirin, and it's effect on blood/sodium levels.

I got all this info from this website, if you'd like to hear it from the horses mouth rather than have an idiot like myself regurgitate this info, check it out at http://www.gssiweb.com/reflib/refs/6...ent.cfm?pid=96

Have a safe weekend everybody, and if you're drinking for the superbowl, don't drive!

One time I drank a gallon in 15 minutes. I felt horribly sick. I pretty much laid there for a while.

I think that a half gatorade/ half water mix is more efficient. If I drink pure gatorade in the middle of intense cardio with no break then it boils in my stomach.
