Yeah you can have a silencer, only on a .22 rimfire rabbit gun though, thats shit loads slower than a 'swift' centrefire, and even then it has to be low velocity for the silencer to work.
No hand gun's allowed though and getting centrefire is tough, we also have laws about what rifle you need for humane killing, e.g. to shoot a deer in England you need a minimum .273 calibre.
Yeah, you would have to use sub-sonic ammo for the silencer to really be effective. The "sonic boom" would make supersonic ammo loud with or without a silencer.
We have laws about minimum hunting calibers here too. Deer can be taken with .22 magnum but larger game (moose, elk, etc.) require larger calibers. As I said before, I usually bowhunt but I have taken deer with a rifle before. I have a .270 Remington that does a good job on whitetail.
bowhunting now thats cool. i love anmials so sitting in a tree with a gun and scope dont sound fair to me but creepin in the woods with a bow and arrow is at least fair. how hard is that to get close enough to hit a deer with a bow?
With a traditional bow, I really need to get within 20 yards. With a compound, I will shoot out to 35 yards.
BTW, not all rifle hunting is easy. Stalking whitetails with a rifle when you may be called on to make a quick shot on a running deer at 100+ yards is far from easy.
Stalking them with a bow is much harder though I'll concede. Even hunting from a stand, while more relaxing, is not easy. Deer are exquisitly tuned to movement and have a sense of smell better than a dog's. Their hearing is sensitive enough to pick up your breathing on a quite day. If the wind turns wrong or you bat an eyelash at the wrong time, you're busted. If you are busted by a mature deer with experience at being hunted, you may have to abandon that stand for a year or more because every time that deer comes by, it will look up to see if you are there and if you are, even if the wind is right and you are perfectly still, it will blow a warning and your day is done.
When I was a kid in Maine, my cousins and I used to play a game where we would see how close we could get to various woodland critters, LOL. I actually got close enough to a squirrel I was able to kick it (not hard). I think I almost gave the poor thing a heart attack, LOL.
I was never able to get closer than about 10 yrds from a deer without getting busted. You approach downwind (wind in your face). Being barefoot helps a lot because you can feel the twigs and stuff underfoot and avoid breaking them. When their head is down and turned dead away from you, you stalk. When they start to swish their tail, it means they are about to look up so you freeze. They will look around and maybe stare at you for a minute or two and then go back to grazing.
One of my cousins actually got close enough to slap a doe on the ass, LOL. She kicked him in the chest and left a couple perfect hoofprints. We tease him about it to this day.
damm spidey are you fuckin rambo? thats crazy! i never ment to sound like it was easy to hunt with a rifle just not as fair. i think your cuzz should hunt with a knife.
LOL, no. I am just patient. It could take an hour or two to traverse 20 yards in that game. Remember, they hone in on MOVEMENT. If you stay perfectly still, they won't see you or identify you as a threat until you are pretty close (assuming they don't hear or smell you). Just keep obscuring yourself with trees or brush as long as you can and be really careful not to break twigs or rustle leaves. It just takes practice.
