  • Car Stereo ?

So heres the deal, three weeks ago my amp and subs were stolen. Now, (after getting a car alarm installed) I am looking to rebuild my system. About a week ago I picked up an Alpine 700w mono amp that has an 350w RMS at 2ohm. What I am looking to do is bridge two 4 ohm 12" subs. The subs I am interested in are:

    A) Two kicker comps that have a 300w RMS combined

    or

    B) Two infinaty 1230w that have a 600w RMS combined

So I guess my question is, is it better to overpower the subs by 50w, or underpower the infinatys. Normally I would think that the kickers would be the better choice out of the two, but they max at 600w combined and that scares me. What do ya think. Any help is appreciated. :)

kickers are a better choice and more power is always better less distortion.

Juice- It is a 94 Explorer, so no trunk to deal with

Rocket- Would you be worried about blowing them with such a low max?

        Thanks for the help fellas

Excess wattage doesn't blow speakers....distortion does. As long as the music isn't distorted while playing at high volume, then you should be okay with the Kickers. You plan on getting an external x-over? The built in x-overs in amps are not sufficient enough to effectively drown out higher frequencies. I currently have 4 Rockford Fosgate HE 10" subs being ran off 2 Punch 401s's, and then a 201s running my pioneer mids and highs. Infinity makes decent mids and highs, but their subs lack the deep thumpiness of Kicker, RF, or JL. If you're looking for good deals on car audio, check out www.sounddomain.com If you find your stuff cheaper on another website they will match it, and give you an additional 5% off. I bought all my stuff there, and didn't spend over $600.

check it out bro. I have a system on my stanger. Tonight i will try to take some pics. I got a Kenwood 800watt amp, with a pioneer deh-p3600 deck. The sub is a 1 10inch Sony Xplod 1,100 watt. I know its only one sub but the thing that does the trick is the box bro.

Me and a friend made it ourselves, cost us only 22 bucks (the mfd plywood 3/4"). I got the design from a web page. It can either hold one 10 inch or a 12. One is all u need to get the explosive, ground and chest pounding bass. Sounds awesome bro. Most people think i got 2 12inch woofer and they freak when i say i got one 10 inch.

here the link and pics bro.

hey man why dont u get a Pioneer Premier, those pound awesome. They vary in wattage. Some go from 1000watts and as high as 2000watts. With the box im telling u, u wont get any distortion. Just be adjusting the amp and radio tell u get the clear sound u want. Its all clear, deep bass. Also a goo 12 inch jl audio would sound good but thier too expensive.

I honestly never thought of gettin an external cross over. I've always relied on the amp for that. I will defately look into that. One good thing about my Explorer is that it came with a pretty decent factory amp to power the door speakers, so im not so concerned with them. I'll check into that site, sounds like a pretty good deal. Thanks much.

I have mine in a 97 Expedition, and it POOUUNNDDSSS. I had to get new door speakers, and 3/4" tweeters mounted in the door pillars. I wanted overall sound quality to go with my Clarion in dash 7" Widescreen monitor, and PS2.

I used to have a pair of Alpines and they were kick ass. All I use is Alpine speakers in my cars.
